Octy VRS bonnet lever

Featured Replies

Apologies if this has gone in before (did a search but couldnt find much on it)

Picked up my 2011 Octy VRS on Sunday and today I went to open the bonnet, when I pulled the lever down by the drivers door the handle came off in my hand. It didnt really look broken and I managed to push it back on and then open the bonnet ok, however this doesnt seem normal?

The rest of the car is so good and therefore it just surprised me it happened. I have a 6 month warranty but not sure if this will be covered will need to check.

Anyone else had this issue?

cheers

Yup - mines exactly the same.. .seems to be a very common problem.

I maintain pressure on the lever into the bulkhead as I pull the lever back and it still comes off in my hend. A PITA is a usual terms for that kind of thing I understand.

I had to remove the bonnet lever yesterday in order to take off the trim panels. It is very simply clipped on on via a keyed interface. I made sure my bonnet was open so  I could try the lever again to ensure it worked. There is a lock button at the top of the lever to keep it from coming off.

Cheers.

CWARD I dont think I saw a lock on the handle?

I probably gave it too much force as I used to on my old Passat, however I still wouldnt expect it to come off that easy. I'll have a chat to the trader who sold me the car see what he thinks.

happened to me after replacing the handle i alwayys place my thumb on the side and pull in a rotating direction , hasn't happened agian

As above, once you know the design is weak you automatically treat the lever with a bit more care, I too now hold my thumb over the end to stop it coming off.
