Front lights turning to match turn you're doing

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I know we have cornering lights in form of fog lights when we turn, but on my brother-in-law's Audi A6 he has cornering light using main xenon lights. It works on low speeds but even better on high speed when just doing corners of the road. I was wondering if we can have this as well - for one my xenons do a little dance up/down/outside/inside when I start the car, so they are capabe of being steered left or right, also have noticed several times that after certain faster journeys when I stop at traffic lights xenons are adjusting their beam by noticeable angle going from wide to narrower beam.

Anyone knows anything re this??

I presume the Superb is similar to the Yeti in that the light switch needs to be selected to auto for the AFS to work, and ligh bending needs to be ticked in the maxidot to get the xenons to turn whilst driving.

The UK spec Mk2 Superb has adaptive front xenon lighting as standard.

The lights will bend left and right according to the direction of turn.

Up to 30 mph, the light beam widens to highlight kerbs and side turns.

At motorway speeds, the beam lengthens in proportion to how fast the vehicle is travelling.

When the wipers are on continuously for more than 10 seconds, the lights enter a special rain mode that alters the beam to reduce dazzle on wet roads.

The xenon lights will not move when the vehicle is stationary. If the lights are in city mode up to 30 mph, they will reset to the standard straight ahead mode when the car comes to a stop, this is what you are seeing in traffic.

And to reiterate what Kenny has said, none of the AFS modes work when the lights are on manual. AFS only works in 'Auto' mode.

IIRC, there are no options in the maxi dot menu to alter the AFS settings. That's specific to the Yeti. I can't remember if that's to do with the Yeti's cornering lights or the actual AFS system.

Mines does a mental start up, they aim down, then up and move side to side, I've checked my maxidot but can't see light bending option, found travel mode?

Leave the lights in the Auto position and the car takes care of the rest. No setting in the maxidot

It's very subtle, so you really only notice it's gone when you drive a car without it once you're used to having it - when I was driving roads I knew well the first few weeks after getting the car I did dip the lights thinking there was oncoming traffic because my lights were lighting places where the previous car didn't light.

The only time I could really see it working was while driving a very twisty back road on dipped beams in fog. For the conditions I found that dipped beams steering into the bends did a better job than the fog lights. Thanks to the fog I could actually see the lights moving around as I steered.

AFS is disabled when you turn on fog lights as the switch must go to the 'on' position before it can be pulled out to to select fog lights.

I have the adaptive on mine (Swiss edition car). Great bit of kit but I'm not sure I'd spec it from new (bought mine 2nd hand).

My youngest thinks my car is a transformer when it does its thing at start up :)

Hi all,

Thanks for vodeo, sent it to family :smug:

It seems in my case that I haven't been driving crazy enough :) to notice.. or not in deep enough darkness

Thanks for info about 30mph

AFS is most noticeable on really dark tree lined country roads. This is where I get most advantage from them and the system is quite effective on sweeping bends too where the lights bend around the corners. The technology was actually first seen in the Citreon DS in there early 70s - now that was innovative back then!
