headlight washer system

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I'm booked next week to retrofit a bi-xenon kit for my Fabia and I'm also trying to install the washer system as well. What are the differences between standard system and the one with headlight washers ? Is the pump different or only the pipes ?

Pump, pipes and a bigger bottle with a level warning I believe.

And the wiring of course.

Is the bottle required?

Is the bottle required?

It's not essential, but you will use shedloads more screenwash with headlight washers.

Different front bumper as well.

Oh ... didn't see that coming .. a bigger bottle needs a different bumper ?

No it's not the bottle that dictates the bumper required. You can use the same bottle but as above it will go through it quickly.

It's that you need a new bumper that has the washer jets in.

That's what I'm looking to do as well. Thanks !

Ive looked into this and spoke to the dealers about it, price is around £200 for...

Bottle

Pump

2 jets

pipes

clips for pipes

trim for bumper

I dont plan on changing the bumper, more fabricating brackets so the jets can fit a standard bumper, posted in the wanted section for a few month but they seem quite rare...

if you dont mind the stick on type i would...

Go to the scrap yard and pull two washer jets from a standard bonnet, get them painted to match your bumper if you want.

plumb them into the rear washer jet pipe and use a standard 10mm silicone tube. will cost around £10 in total and be able to operate them by pushing the stalk.

I'd go with jets from the scrapyard as the writer of the DIY guide did. I'd also use jets from the windshield washer system as well, they should work as good as the standard ones IMHO.

Later edit: xenon for fog lights as well ? Why aren't they yellow? Do they *actually* do something ?

The pipe work for headlamp washers is much large bore and pump a lot stronger. Windscreen washer jets won't be of much practical use.

Erm .. ok .. didn't know that! Could you also provide me the part numbers for the items that I should be looking for ?

Yeah the whole point is that unlike the windscreen that has the wipers to shift the dirt they have to achieve that with the power of the spray alone.

When my headlamp washers go off it's like a pressure washer! I believe the pop-up ones on the Fabia and Octavia use the pressure of the fluid to make them pop-up and not motorised or anything.

Best bet is to either go the whole hog and fit the proper ones or get some off an Octavia MK1 or similar.

In which context the Octy 1 parts can be painted body colour.

Ive gave up looking and just bought the caps to stick on the bumper for now  :sun:

again.. as said above.. as i discovered when looking you need the differnt bottle and pump and the pressure of the water pushes them out of the bumper and sprays the headlights.

To do properly you will also need the differnt front bumper then since thats how they properly attach, I will fabricate my own brackets to fit the bumper but since its all theory ive no idea how successful that will be.

you can use the standard bumper, you just need to cut the holes in it where the jets come through. There is a casting in the std. bumber where the jets screw / clamp in. you do need someone with a "washer" bumber to make a template so you know where to cut the hole in your own bumper. ........... I know, some gob****e ploughed the nearside front end out of me on a 50/50 road ..... joys of the emerald isle!

A quick question. I got myself a bumper, washer bottle pumps, jets, jet covers and etc. but I dont have a wiring loom. Can anyone tell me or show me a pic how it looks like ? Cat. number maybe ? Also should say, it is a retrofit :)

I've seen a retrofit when I was looking into it, it linked the wires from the standard screen wash pump into the headlight washer pump.
