Heater Motor

Featured Replies

Hi all

The heater/air blowers have ceased to work on my Octy VRS.

Fuse had blown, however replacing the fuse, it quickly blew again. Guessing its the heater motor which has seized or is stuck.

I asked at my local garage whilst MOTing my car about it and they priced up a replacement motor at a whopping £380.

A quick Google tonight, it looks like I'll be doing it myself at that price :-0

Any ideas where the heater motor actually lives?

The motor/fan assembly lives behind the glove box. Once that is out of the way, it all becomes relatively easy to access, along with the cabin's pollen filter.

One word of warning: the glovebox also contains the passenger airbag deactivation switch, if that is unplugged it will most likely trigger an airbag warning light. If memory serves, you can get around this by disconnecting the battery before doing anything else. This is always a prudent move anyway.

That can throw up other errors though. I found it's fairly easy to disconnect the switch, remove it from the glovebox and reconnect it. The airbag warning would only come up if the ignition is switched on, which I suspect would be done to make sure everything is working before putting the car back together ;)

That's fair enough, I couldn't remember if the airbag light came on irrespective of turning the ignition on or not. I just err on the side of caution and disconnect the battery for anything like that. It probably helps having a VCDS lead on hand at all times though  :)

If it is a mk2 with climatronic the fan is 280 pounds from euro, but is a very easy fix NONEED TO REMOVE GLOVE BOX.

Thanks for the replies.

Yep its a climatronic one. Where is it, if I don't need to remove the glove box?

It is underneath the glovebox, remove the felt cover that will expose the pollen filter casing, it is next to that undo one screw and you just twist the motor out then undo the wiring. It is a tight fit and quite fiddly to get out but it deffo can be done without removing the glovebox, I have changed mine. One thought it might just be the "hedgehog" resistor/ controller that is bolted to the motor gone and blowing the fuse. it is not like the non climatronic which will still work on fulll speed only.
