water getting into boot

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have water getting into my boot. I had a problem with my rear screen wash motor which needed to be replaced and this leaked GREEN fluid into the same place. However Iam convinced this is not the issue as the water is not green and does not taste bitter.

The part of the boot over the near side wheel arch is very wet. I think its rain water getting in around the boot seal or could there be a whole in the wheel arch?

I have made a video and if you can think of anything please let me know

Regards

Mat

Had the same issue, I put holes in the bottom of the boot seal and it massively improved it but still get a small amount in.

If the carpet on the left side of the boot is wet then this is almost definitely the rear washer pipe.

It pops off above the nearside wheel arch.

Does the rear washer still work? I.e. is there fluid making it to the rear washer?

The boot seal as mentioned above is another common issue. Open the boot and squeeze the seal near the boot lock. Does water spurt out of the drain holes? This however usually ends up in the spare wheel well and no where near the carpeted side panels.

Thats a good idea!! Any place along the bottom or have you found a good spot?

I will take a look at the washer pipe and report my findings. It cold be the washer pipe but as the liquid is not green Iam not sure if this will be the problem. Yes the rear washer does work with good force but I will check tomorrow. Does anyone have a picture of the location of the pipe on the wheel arch? Do I need to remove part of the parcel shelf to pull the carpet back to find it?

I gave the door seal a squeeze and yes water spurted out like a water pistol!!

I could have 2 issues one being the pipe over the wheel arch and the second being the boot seal

I just made three across the bottom at the lowest points. Left, middle and right.

Ok I have now had time to have a good look and the plot thickened as I piled back the layers (of carpet)!

The car has a tow-bar fitted and the wiring loom looked to be the entry point of water into the spare wheel.

Now the pipe for the rear washer has not come apart at the joint and I think the screen wash I found under the carpet is residual form an earlier problem.

I have made a video please excuse the very rough editing but take a look and let me know what you think.

The second grommet that you say seems to be original to the car is the parking sensor loom. That is where I had water coming in from. There was water inside the grommet like you have.

I sealed it all up with that black sealant stuff (Loctite brand I think) and it's been bone dry since.

P.s. "feng shui water feature" lol

Cut the holes with scissors, i tried to drill and it started to tangle the whole rubber.

Edit: You've already done it, doh!

I have parking sensors too so think i'll do the same and strip it all to see if I've got any leaks there too.
