2.0 tdi lumpy idle

Featured Replies

If anyone can help.

My octavia has 90k on the clock.

I bought it with an intimitant lumpy idle which I thought would be simple to fix.

Five mechanics and well in excess of £1000 spend on new injectors, new tandem pump, glow plugs, fuel line clean out, servicing and attempts at diagnosis, I still have a lump idle.

It went to skoda with reports on faults in injector 2 and wire loom, injector replaced but I am hesitant about spending more on 'possible' fixes. I'm not convinced this is from the wire loom.

The issue is intimitant, the car cruises well but engine may slightly vibrate at speed if playing up. If held at 1500 rpm the power will cut in and out but never stall. As if I'm going on and off the accelerator we very 2 seconds.

Any help is muchly appreciated.

Additional information, the fuel filter was changed twice as was black with what I guess was oil from a faulty tandem pump. Do I just need to give good run to clear out the system as the tandem pump and fuel line was only done today.

are there any fault codes and what are they?

.

If there is a specific fault to injector 2 then the wiring loom would probably be the cheapest thing to test or replace first, if it's not that then you could try and swap the injectors and see if the fault swaps over with it. If it does you need a new injector

Given that the Injector wiring lives inside the cylinder head, which is not a nice environment, a wiring fault is quite possible.

Injectors already done

Sorry, when reading your post it sounded like you had been quoted for the work but had not gone though with the work. I'm not sure where I would go from here. I take it after that work the faults with the injectors are now gone and all appears good apart from the original fault of the lumpy idle?

Have you had a compression check done? I presume this is a 2.0 PD? If it is then did they check camshaft for wear? Wouldn't hurt unplugging the maf and see if that makes a difference to the lumpy idle.

Thanks guys, really helpful, I also want to check the EPG value.

Minw was lumpy too and it was timing being a bit off. What engine (code) are we talking about?
