Factory tyres - VRS

Featured Replies

On the three Skoda's I ha owned from new: 10 plate VRS TSI Bridgestones 7/10; 13 plate Octy 1.4 TSI Dunlops 5/10 & current car VRS 230 Pirellis no score yet only done 100 miles. Agree with other comments, Skoda will look at cost not what is the best rubber for that particular model. Had 18" Golus alloys on the last car, the ride seems more assured and planted and less road noise so far on the VRS, early days though. Stating the obvious but it depends what your driving style and I guess the mileage you do in terms of views on rubber. I do 6k miles a year average speed around 15 mph, no boy racer!

Its an interesting and emotive topic. To be fair I didnt buy the vrs looking for a track car or a weapon, I was looking for a good spec roomy car with a good bit if poke. Having said that, after riding motorbikes and trusting certain rubber with a 5 pound note sized contact patch with 180bhp through it I do have an appreciation of how poor tyres can ruin a good vehicle. I will suck it and see I guess, cant see me changing all 4 though.

Hi there, I got mine in July. It has Bridgestone Potenza RE050As in just the standard 225/40R18Y.

Correction, mine are the S001s. Must've been looking at something with the RE050s on yesterday.

As for performance, don't get much opportunity to push them up here. I've not even covered 3000 miles yet.

The Dunlop Sport Maxx RT's are woeful tyres.....expensive (for what they are), wear poorly (in fac every set ive had on my Octavia have started cracking around the outer edge of tread within 10k miles), grip isnt fabulous wet or dry, quite noisy and they dont offer particularly good kerb protection either.

I have Potenza S001's on my GTD and they aint too bad....reasonable grip, dont seem noisy, good kerb protection....but they arent wearing v well.....done 3mm tread in less than 7k miles which means if they last to 14k I'll be doing well.

Goodyear Eagle F1's are probably the best tyre ive experienced, liked Michelin PS3's and Pirelli P Zero Nero's too. Bang per buck the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo 2's are without doubt one of the best value for money tyres going...have four in my Octavia now much much better than the Dunlop carp!

The idea of Dunslops fills me with dread!

You spelt Dunlop wrong ....Oh wait!

The OEM Dunlops on my Octavia are wearing quite well after 20,000 km for such a soft tyre, dry grip is good, but I have not had much opportunity to see their limitations in the wet (does not rain much here).

I find they are still quiet which is quite a surprise as the Dunlops on my Mk2 got very noisy in a relatively short time. I recently had to do a fairly extended run on my spacesaver spare tyre due to a puncture at 1 am in remote country area and that was really noisy and a relief to get the tyre repaired and back on.

Mine are fine so far but not many others have good things to say them and it seems to point to poor production and quality testing techniques on Dunlop's part so I am unlikely to push my luck on trying them again. I think I am leaning toward replacing with Michelins when the time comes.

Dunslops is a throw back to the biking days sorry!!

I`ve not been impressed with my 001`s either, just got a pair of conti SC5`s and swapped the rears to the front to wear out. 12.5 k miles with just over 2mm left.

Ready to also be tested in this fine Cumbrian weather :D

Don`t know if anyone does but if you`re shopping for tyres check out kwick fits website, they did the conti SC5`s far cheaper than anywhere else inc ringing my local branch!

£93 fitted etc for 18`s at the moment :)
