Factory tyres - VRS

Featured Replies

Evening! Ive got a few more weeks and another snowboard trip to get through before I take delivery of my brand new vrs 2.0tsi and my curiosity is running wild so please humour me!

One of my gripes about my current car is the dreadful tyres it was delivered with, they are noisy and have so little grip on the front that they spin like crazy - after 12k the fronts have all but vanished and the rears are barely run in lol.

So after all that, has anyone taken delivery of a new VRS recently& can tell me what the factory supplied rubber is these days?

All the best,

Peter

Hi there, I got mine in July. It has Bridgestone Potenza RE050As in just the standard 225/40R18Y.

Mine came with Bridgestone Potenza S001's. It is an Irish spec car so not sure if yours will be the same. I took delivery in early January.

Mine too.

Also interested.

There are mixed reviews of the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A. Some poor with RWD cars and some good with FWD.

The Bridgestone Potenza S001 fared better on initial looks at reviews.

If you specced the 19" wheels it will come with Pirelli pzeros which are horrible tyres

Hi Allan, Ive found that 18's are on the limit of noiuse and comfort without adding to it! Even if they had offered me them I would have refused! Im too old and miserable to make the compromise ;)

haha  :D the 19"s are not much different noise or comfort wise to the 18"s

I'm glad to hear they aren't using continentals anymore, yes the grip was good but the fronts only lasted 4K miles when I first had my VRS.

Bridgestone Potenza S001s.  I have got rid of one due to a puncture and am looking forward to replacing the others with Goodyear F1 Aysmetrics as soon as they get down to 3mm.

There is little difference between them. I found the tyres fitted to the 19's ok, yes the will spin if you ask for to much. But generally ok.

After 2500 miles fronts are at 7.5m and rears at 8mm.

I've currently got 17" winters on, when I swap I will try my set with UniRoyal RS3 and see what a difference that makes.

I didnt want to take the risk either way, having previously had 19's and not seeing any advantages I would never have specced them anyway. Just not my thing really, although Im glad people are enjoying them!

With regards the factory puts tyres on the car for profit, you put tyres on for safety. Why TF would you be interested in what was factory fit ?

Because I wondered which tyres the car comes with normally from the factory? Did you read the question or are you just abraisive for the laugh? Genuine question!

Peter, my point was the company's principle aim has not changed (they exsist to make profit), they will supply the car with the lowest cost consumerbles that meet the quality standard at the time of production.

That may well mean that you don't get a 5 year old design of Conti SC2 but, it also doesn't mean you'll get a tyre you approve of.  FFS I got Dunlops on mine when it arrived 14K of no faith ain't nice but, like you I didn't specify the tyres on the order so, in the words of Thin Lizzy "I took what I got"

I have never knowingly been humourous, rough or smooth.

You are exactly right. This is why I was curious as to what level they were going to take the **** lol! I admire your cynicism.

Having said that, I dont want to replace all 4 corners straight out of the box. The idea of Dunslops fills me with dread!

Cheers

Peter

So those of you with bridgestones; are they any good?

See my post of 07:58 today - they are competent but not brilliant!

I find the Bridgestones are at their best on a warm and dry day in terms of grip as they're quite hard. They should last quite a while but unfortunately I don't think they're well suited to the UK climate, in particular our abundance of cold and wet weather. I've long been a Michelin fan myself and will probably swap to PS4's when it's finally time to take the Bridgestones off.

Well I'm in cumbria, weve had 1 warm day in the last 6 years and its rained on all the rest so Im not holding out much hope on their performance!!

I'm with WesternDuke.  In my opinion they're mediocre.  Just about passable in the dry, poor in the wet, and a bit treacherous in the damp/greasy.  My dilemma is they're just not quite bad enough to ditch them and get something half decent, so I feel I ought to just get a bit of wear out of them rather than waste 'em.  I'm happy to be wearing them out

Without knowing for sure, I reckon Eagle's would suit mine very well.

Hmm, I'll have to see what comes on mine when it arrives. Here in South Wales it's more often wet than dry so they may not suit the conditions here.

Not really impressed at all, in the wet/damp they are awful, in the dry just about adequate.

They seem to be over half worn in 9 months and 6000 miles, and can't wait for them to wear out so I to can replace them with Goodyear's (efficient grips or F1's).

Hmmmm. I've replaced my original Dunlop 's with Conti CSC5'S soft I know but, very good in the wet and fill me with faith
