  • Oh dear sorry to hear that.   I find mine very comfortable and I'm 6ft 4" . The only thing I wish I could adjust further is the angle of the seat base (that is adjustable on models with electric sea

  • Whats the spec of your L&K? I might be in the market.

Crikey , how about seeing if you can buy a second hand one on line and trim/adjust it yourself

Yeah alterations ain't cheap. I did ring a place but to change anything significantly soon became big $. Particularly if you don't know exactly what you want doing!

I am struggling to see how you cannot find a suitable angle for the seat, on a manual seat yes, but a fully electrically adjustable one?

I would say however 40 mins is not a long time, persevere (in combination with steering wheel adjustment) and I’m sure you will find a comfortable setting.

If it were say the lumbar support then I would recommend fitting an orthopaedic Recaro seat, you won’t get one for less than a grand (new) .... but you could keep it for life and swap it from vehicle to vehicle, this would be far cheaper than trading the car in!

Someone you know must have somewhere your ‘old’ seat could be stored? I put mine into the loft.

However once I went for a fully electrically adjustable seat (MKII Superb Elegance, Yeti L&K and now a MKIII Superb L&K) I found a comfortable setting could be found... with time

The electric adjustment doesn't fundamentally change the shape of the seat. The curve of the lower back support is pretty much fixed even with the electric lumber support. The length of the base doesn't change. The angles only go so far. To say it it must work is a little naive.

I agree with this, some seats are just the wrong shape. :(

I had a similar problem on my octy l&k despite trying all sorts of adjustment I found them uncomfortable and after year i decided to get an audi A3 sport drivers seat. Despite it being manual and no lumber adjustment I found them extremely comfortable.

You are right it doesn’t change the shape of the seat, but the adjustments are far finer so easier to get to a position that suits, if your lower lumbar support is ‘pretty much fixed’ then I would say it is not working fully, I need the lower lumbar support to be pumped up fully on anything I drive due to a couple of ongoing back problems (torn disc & nerve damage etc) and on my Elegance the lumbar adjustment was very noticeable.

Previously you said it was the angle of the seat not the length of the base, hence my conclusion:

It's more about the angle of the base than the lumber. To get it anything like right I end up with my head touching the roof!

I assume you have tried lowering the rear of the seat base slightly compared to the front? as this will increase the leg support slightly

If you need an extendable base then a high spec Audi / BMW etc will have these as std... as will most cars fitted with Recaro seats, I’m fortunate with a 31” inside leg the seat base is normally always long enough, but most seats fail with a decent lumbar support.

I have previously fitted Audi A6 (full electric adjustment) and a Recaro to my previous MKI Superb.

Something along these lines http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-S4-A4-B7-RECARO-Heated-Front-Electric-Leather-Seats-Silver-Cream-Memory-/252163177728?hash=item3ab618bd00:g:FGUAAOSwo0JWQJtL could be ideal (depending on the colour you want)

Just check they have either bolt on subframes (so they can be swapped if you need to) or have the correct subframe fitment for the Superb (I know the Audi S3 Recaro’s have removable subframes as that is what I fitted... these also have the extendable bases)

It probably took me 2-3000k miles to find just the right seat position in my superb FL, and sometimes I still adjust it slightly from time to time now. I always store the positions in the memory so I can go back to them if I don't like the new position. I'm 6'3' so fairly tall and find the seats pretty good bearing in mind I often drive 2-300 miles a day. Personally I like the front of the seat raised so it supports firmly under my thighs.

The most comfortable seats I ever had in any car are VW Sports seats, first had them in a B6 Passat Sport then in a Passat CC GT. They aren't as adjustable as the Superb electric seats but they fitted my shape perfectly.

Maybe give it some time and try many different positions before deciding to change the car.

By the way that's a great looking car with a fantastic spec you have there.

Just to echo everybody else don't give up keep adjusting your seat you'll get there in the end, I'm 6ft 4" and it took me a while to get "the" perfect driving position. Regular drives from home across Europe (5 or 6 hours driving in one go) no aches no pains. Your car is far too nice to give up.

Thanks everyone. I do keep adjusting but I'm not there yet. I'm pretty sure it's never going to be right which is why the car is now in the classifieds.

I'm also trying to arrange an extended test drive in an octavia vrs to see if that suits better. Hopefully at least 24 hours.

  • 4 weeks later...

I hope you managed to find a good seat position,

I drive an elegance with the electric memory seats, my wife has found after years of having the seat position exactly the sane as mine, she prefers the seat back more upright, a few degrees,

with the seat in her position, within 10 minutes I get pain in my back, I have also find driving a BMW 320D that the seat squab is far to low for me causing back pain.

I wish I had memory seats, after a service it took me ages to find the driving position that suited me.

I also was initially worried about the seats when I first bought my car but eventually found the perfect position
