New Plate Legislation

Featured Replies

AFAIK it's a bit like tinted windows - if they pull you, they give you x number of days to get it sorted and report to a police station (think it's 7 days).

I guess a lot depends on how you deal with the officer at the time too... ;)

Rob.

www.fancyplates.com make them without a postcode. & you can have a message along the bottom of it as well, instead of a dealer name.

But if you get stopped twice they have the powers to take private number plates off you....

Is it worth it?

I spaced mine and have got away with it for ages. I have since changed cars and it's now normally spaced.

However, a mate had his spaced, and got pulled - told if they see it spaced again - bye bye number plate.

No fonts were altered btw....

Mine was H 7YP R - is now H7 YPR

His was L33T AL is now L33 TAL

Where does the law stand with illegal registration plates... I am after one with a border and a slightly different font, (very simular to UK Standard)
Current requirements on the display of number plates can be found in the link below. (The quote below that is copied from that link.)

THE LAW

The law states that,

  • You must not alter, rearrange or misrepresent the letters or numbers
  • Characters must not be moved from one group to the other (e.g. A242 ABC must not be displayed as A242A BC).

Offences may result in any or all of the following:

[*]A fine of up to

Drive past an ANPR set-up with "non-standard" plates and you'll be stopped by one of the assorted Traf-Pols that accompany them, that's almost certain.

ANPR has enough problems reading proper plates, never mind anything a bit different :)

I can't be 100% certain (it's in storage) but when I recently had a plate made up for my caravan by Halfords they did not put their postcode or even their name on the plate.

I did have to produce 17 different forms of ID though and a sample of DNA which was bonded with the plate using a state of the art computerised number plate producing saturday boy!
