water in the wheel well

Featured Replies

Dont generally look in the boot of swmbo's citigo, shopping gets turfed onto back seat and normally shes driving it..

but, i noticed while looking for something today theres a LOT of water pooled in the spare wheel well.

It may be nothing - a spilt bottle of water perhaps.. she has a habit of leaving multi pack in there for bringing to work, given the carpet and underside hardboard is also quite wet.

i noticed also a fair amount of condensation on the inner metal surfaces of the boot - condensated from the puddle, or atmosheric which is the source of the water?

Or.... is there somewhere i should be looking to check for a leak?

Havnt had a reason to lift the wheel yet, and she was out tonight at a funeral so wont get to look until after work tomorrow.. is there a handy bung to pull and letthe water out or am i mopping up and pouring cat litter in there...

Could be a poor boot seal or a poor seal around one of the rear lights.

I've found my son's has a water leak round the rear window, might be that....... Have you noticed a water mark on the inside of the rear glass?

Not really... going to have to have a really proper look on saturday morning..

If it helps, to remove the plastic trim on the boot there's a torx screw inside the handle, then the whole thing just pulls of, I'd spray the car with a jet wash or hose before investigating, that way you'll defo know you have a leak and potentially find where it's coming from, I'd also just check the rear lights are secured, take off the little side clips on each side of the plastic trim and find the twisty metal screw thingy behind the light and just check they're both tight

So got the boot emptied and wheel etc out..

Quite the puddle!

Couldnt do any proper investigative work as of course it started raining while i was bailing water out...

However, i believe it is getting in down the back of driver side cluster, and out through the rather "ventilated" inside of the panel.

Shame those rubber (can push up and down) bungs dont want to come out, wouldve made draining it alot easier. Was temptes to just drill on tbh, but didnt want a reall hole in the car!!!

Crumbs that is a bit of a paddling pool, at least you know the source of the leak now

2013 Citigo, isn't that still covered under warrantee?  That is a lot of water, any more i'd be buying a couple of goldfish.

Possibly... gonna have a closer look tomorrow and find definite source, then ring my indy mechanic who is also a skoda dealer parts manager and ask whats the craic with it.

Have to book him to do a service shock change on the octy anyway... he'll advise on the issue.

Going by volume, i reckon its been getting in there for months...

My son's is in the garage waiting for a new drivers side rear light cluster to arrive overnight and be fitted tomorrow....... Could be the same issue here.

Ooohh good to know!!

All fixed. If the seal has gone, then they have to replace the whole light cluster as you can't just get a new seal.

Quick follow up - had a look just now as im working from hime today and swmbo is in mid term. Last few days rain since i dried it out on saturday has got another fine puddle in there. Water definitely getting in on drivers side, but not sure if it through/over/under the boot seal or by the light cluster.

Either way rang the local dealers to confirm warranty isnt up until July, so they are taking it in next thyrsday for 2 days to suss it out and repair. Courtesy car on drop iff for the time they have it  result

Todays update - car dropped by swmbo after work, courtesy car collected. Theyve given her a 152 plate mk3 furby ambition spec in black to run around in while gets done.

Must say, its very nicely trimmed inside, going to take it for a punt later see whats what with it. Seats are way nicer than my old octy or the 'go - snugger side bolsters and the like. bottom right Push down reverse on the box same as the newer citigos init?

Black suits the shape imo - ive seen a few in other colours, and it looks alright but black kinda softens the angles or something?

Yep, mine is like that.

Took the furby for a drive - cracking car! Waaay better than the mk2 htp i test drove last yr during a potential trade in of the citigo..

Must actually check the spec on it beyond it being an ambition..

And finally - following dealer warranty works - boot seal dodgy.

the furby was returned and much drier on the inside Lexi is parked outside... in the ****ing rain.

Good test to see if it was the only place, but i trust the guys in the dealer here

Happy days that its sorted but keep a check on it now as well, just in case they haven't fixed it.

Ohh.. dont worry it will be getting checked on fortnightly.. and ill be chalking the seal as a tell tale...

In mean time therel be a couple of socks full of cat littler going in to draw out all the excess water vapoyr likely hanging around in there after it all.

Excellent news, perhaps a Mod should pin this for future reference and so it's not lost?
