LCD TV Picture Quality

Featured Replies

I think I'm going to hold out until the Rear projections DLPs come down in price as they are by far the best quality I've seen so far.

The DLP's are really good especially the Tosh and Sharp ones but They do take up a lot of space and the screen sizes are generally massive. Very good value though and they knock spots off some of the best plasma/LCD sets out there.

I'd wait till Sony relase their liquid crystal on silicon sets.

Used to be so but no longer the case. Modern LCDs such as my Sony have a very wide viewing angle - effectively no real difference from a CRT.

:bump:

Looking at LCD's in the Janusry sales so more opinions welcome.

Is TV LCD technology the same as laptop screen technology? The screen on my Toshiba laptop suffers from no ghosting or lag what so ever when viewing DVD's. Or is this just because an object moving over the screen has to pass through less pixels to get to the other side so it's not noticable?

The lag is all down to the response time of the panel. This is where some of the lcd tv's are let down. You need to be looking for a panel with anything below 12ms response time reported. If it doesnt tell you the response time then its probably crap (same with TFT monitors for the pc) Cheap components and slap a high price on it.

I have been looking at getting a 32" lcd tv and it's really a minefield at the moment. Things to look out for are

1.) HD Ready. Pay particular attention to this as shops like comet etc.. will stick HD compatible sets in the same area (they are not HD READY)

2.) Must have a HDMI port. This will start to become important in the near future when digital rights management and HD-DVD/Blue Ray become common place. Without one you wont be connecting these things to your tv.

3.) Port for your pc to plug into. (not important for all) Plus points for any tv that has a DVI port and not just a standard D-Sub connection.

A couple of decent sets that I have seen are

Jvc LT32DS6 - This has had very good reviews in all the magazines I have seen it in, including last months PC format. This has everything apart from DVI for pc connection. I have seen this tv for around

In yesterdays paper they said that retailers won't be stocking any CRT TV's in 6 months time. I'm still waiting a bit longer before I change-just bought a 15" cheap LCD for a second TV but I must say the picture quality from close up is pretty poor.

Well normally the words CHEAP and GOOD Quality dont appear in the same sentence which is probably why the picture is poor from close up. BTW the picture on my CRT tv is poor from close up too.

DLP's still suffer a little on the vertical plane. For example if you stand close to the screen and look down on it the image may appear darker but they are great on the horizontal plane and viewable without compromise from any seat in the average room. The old projection tv's used to be awful for viewing angles.

bought an LCD ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO AS MY OLD TV WOULDN'T SWITCH ON

FOUND THE PICTURE QUALITY OF MY £200 5YR OLD TELLY WAS FAR BETTER BUT AT 32 INCH IT TOOK HALF MY L/ROOM UP SO LCD FITS IN VERY NICELY A GOOD COMPRIMISE I THINK
