Update to Marshmallow

Featured Replies

A month ago I bought my first Smart Phone, a Moto G (3rd Gen). It seams to do what I want and has a good battery life (only need to charge it twice a week). Overnight it sometimes asks for app updates which are fine. Today I find I can Update from Android 5.1.1 to 6. Being a operating system update I wasn't sure.

So has anyone upgraded to Android 6 yet? Does it slow the phone down or effect battery life? I have heard on some Samsung phones eg S5, the update does slow it significantly down. Also how much free space do I need? It's basic Android with only 2 extra apps installed (Facebook and Speedtest) but only  have 2 GB free.

The Moto update doesn't seem to suffer the battery drain issues other devices suffer.

It's much faster than lollipop and brings you the option to restrict app permissions yourself.

Updated my LG G4 and have noticed its a bit quicker and battery drain is now less can easily get 3 days between charges

my moto x play and LG G4 are both on marshmallow without problems and by tablet (nexus 9) is too - all good, no problems

MM supposedly fixes a lot of the power issues with LP; hopefully there will be a fully supported version of it for my phone soon (beta is out, but full of bugs).

Updated this morning. Was forced to, everytime I turned it on it asked.

It took 30 mins to do, but all seams well. I have lost the network name (O2) on lop left corner from the screen. It seams to be there when screen is locked. I can remember somewhere in the old system that you could turn off this notification.

Iirc if you're on your home network it won't show as you know what network you're on. If you're roaming it'll always show the network name in the top bar.

Currently on 6.0.1 on my nexus 6p out of the box

My old nexus upgraded to that and the battery life increased in would say by about 20%

The nexus 5 in the other that I gave to my dad is just as poor as it was on 4.4 and 5.1

Project doze is supposed to help battery life

The nexus 5 got Marshmallow.

Yes the 5 did but my old nexus 4 didn't

Well I guess the clock is ticking on the EE upgrade for my S6 then - it is normally about 2 months after everyone else has it so it should be in place for May/June

I thought s6 was rolling out now

Edit

But that's for unbranded set

Given what a piece of **** lollipop turned my phone into for a month..... think I'll leave it a bit while they iron the bugs out.

Yeah, my phone makers wouldnt issue it, just kept adding refinements to KitKat; they are jumping straight to MM, but unlikely my phone will get it as the chipset used has been sidelined due to patent/license issues.

Got the Marshmallow update on my Moto G 3rd gen finally. I really needed the sd-card to be used as internal storage!

Some things are reacting slower, but I really needed the extra storage.

Did anyone try the Android Auto with the Moto G? Is the "known issue" fixed already?
