Headlight gremlins

Featured Replies

I am having some problems with the headlights (xenons) on my Oct '13 Octy. Both come on fine but then whilst driving the offside dipped beam switches off for a second or two every few minutes. When it comes back on it seems brighter than normal, and definitely brighter than the nearside light. Before I dash off to my local dealer (45min drive each way) does anyone have any suggestions? Unfortunately the car has just (two weeks ago) gone over 60k so is now out of warranty. Many thanks.

It's either the xenon lamp itself that's on the way out, or the ballast that ignites the lamp as well as managing the current and voltage supply.

If it's the former, it's recommended that they are replaced as a pair. And if you do indeed require replacement xenon lamps, shop around as the dealer price will most likely be quite high.

Stop driving it and query them for good will asap !

+1 I'm sure if you kick up a fuss you'll get it sorted
