I hate this car.

Sort of.....

Just for your reading pleasure really.

I'm at a point where I'm going to have to get some things taken care of on the car.

There's a noise coming from the NS rear, it gets worse the longer I'm in the car, sounds like the wheel bearing.

When I brake I can feel a fluctuation in the pedal, so that'll be the front discs want doing.

I get a dashboard warning 'engine fault workshop' so that'll be a sensor.

The two front tyres need replacing, they're bordering on the limit.

So with all that in mind I thought I might try and part exchange the car for something else. And that's why I hate the car.

There's nothing out there that's as good or makes me want to change it for.

The Superb's cabin is the nicest I ever owned and anything else is just yuk in comparison. I think the car looks smart although some of my workmates would disagree. And on top of that if I did want to change I would have to put a couple of grand or so towards the part ex deal so I might as well keep it and put it right.

And all this is before I put the bodywork right. What's up with the bodywork Ken, you ask.

When I was coming home from work a motorist in lane two, oh alright, a woman in a Volvo estate decided she wanted my lane and did so without checking or looking, she just pulled into me, no indication, no warning.

Damage on mine is a creased drivers wing at the rear of the arch that goes onto the drivers door. She said sorry and that it was her fault and true to her word she did give me the money to get it fixed.

By the end of February the car should be mint and right for the next twelve month or so?

Cheers Zorst/Ken

Aye, dry your eyes and get it sorted!

Whatever you buy will also wear tyres

The noise from the rear may (or may not ) be tyres - powerful cars especially VAG are prone to "saw toothing" tyres

I'd change your tyres first before changing front disks just in case balancing is causing a problem (this happened on my Superb I)- but at the end of the day they are just a service item are relatively cheap to replace

I loved my Superb I but in 170k miles I still had to replace many sets of tyre and occasionally brakes - (original battery / clutch though)

Glass half full or half empty?

Thanks lads....I'm alreet about it. Fortunately I've got the money to get it done.

On the subject of tyres and balancing, it funny you should mention that.

In my cars history is receipt for discs and pads at 56k miles for £250 done by National tyres. The car is now on 78k miles and the discs still look like new.

Could be the discs could be the tyres? I can get the discs and pads supplied and fitted for £140

I'll be happy when it all starts coming together.

Very good.

Yep I'm not gonna give up on her.

My rear tyres have always suffered with sawtoothing. MY pre FL was the same. Had 4 wheel alignments done on Hunter rigs, had the values altered a little and it STILL does it.

Maybe the MQB Superb will get rid of this annoyance once and for all?

What make of discs did National supply? If they were cheap crappy discs, they could well be the problem. I've always stuck with Pagid on my Superb and Octavias and they've always taken an hammering with no problems at all.

.....also don't listen to your work mates, but post here what they think are 'smart looking cars' so we can ridicule them. Seriously though, buy a car you like and everyone else be damned.

Thanks lads....I'm alreet about it. Fortunately I've got the money to get it done.

You already need two new tyres anyway , try them on the front to start with to see if that solves the

vibration issue - if not time for the new brakes

Also try them on the rear to see if the noise goes - if not.............................

I've had a look at the bill and no manufacturer name just a part number.

Also

I've had a look at this thread  about Silver1011's car and changing to 50 profile tyres.

Interesting read and I fancy that myself. For the looks and also for a more comfortable ride?

Mintex discs and pads all round...proper job

I've had four tyres done not just the front two which has cured one of the issues above. it wasn't a rear wheel bearing, it was the tyre.

Although the rear tyres had about 5mm off tread on them, the inside tread of the tyre was 'blocking' one tread higher than the other which was then making the droning noise the faster I travelled.

I had the sensor replaced to stop the 'engine fault workshop' light display.

And just as I thought it was all coming together I have an engine management light. The turbo actuator has now failed, no pressure as diagnosed by VAG specialist.

I'm getting this done on Thursday and then I think i'll be advertising the car.

"saw toothing"

Sat a short while thinking about this comment and have never heard it said before

So what do you mean by it ????

"saw toothing"

I think verbally describing it will be easier than typing it.

If you look at the teeth on a blade of a saw, alternately the teeth are higher then lower. Well this is what happens to the tread of a tyre. Each part of that tread of the tread pattern as the wheel goes round over time has worn alternately and because every other tread has a wider gap between them it's as if the car is riding on block points?

And so makes a drone noise. Yeah?

Saw toothing can also can be referred to as 'feathering' or 'stepped wear'.

That explains that, cheers

If you run the flat of your hand across the top of the tyre around the circumference first one way then the other you will be able to feel the "teeth" starting even after a few miles
