Extended warranty ?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My Rapid is 3 year old next  month (39000 mile) and i am considering a extending the warranty of which i have made only minor claims on and the car is running great (touch wood)

Any thoughts or experiences, reminding all i have the DSG gearbox which is a bit scary if repair required i believe (no problems to date and love it)

So options/ideas/welcome ;<)

Had an extended warranty from WarrantyWise for my last car - complete bunch of rip-off merchants. Avoid like the plague. When my warranty runs out at the end of the year I am contemplating the extended warranty from the CSMA.

This is with Skoda!

How much do they want and for how long will the extended warranty last?

Still to do the sums and get "assessment" from Skoda

I've just been quoted £219 by Skoda for a 1 year warranty extension. This is for the most comprehensive level of cover - "all component", rather than "named component".

Of note my Rapid hatchback (1.2 TSi Elegance 105 BHP manual) will be 3 years old in a few weeks - it's covered 30k miles with no major mechanical issues. Various rattles / creaks from the front suspension and interior fittings have been the biggest issue for me, but, given the (relatively) low cost of the car, it has most certainly met its remit of cheap / spacious / reliable transport.

Warrantywise quoted £399 for their most comprehensive cover, which, in all fairness, does appears to cover a far greater range of issues than the extended Skoda warranty.

As per Chris's suggestion above - I plan to check out the CSMA extended warranty, prior to signing up with Skoda.

That's not a bad price in all fairness. However, that doesn't include Skoda Assist, which is another £89 a year or £145 for 2 years.

I had the top tier coverage from Warrantywise for the Citroen, but sadly soon found out that they weasel their way out of paying for anything, despite the Quentin Wilson claim of no weasel wording. Only thing they ever covered was a damaged track rod end. Would cover failed turbo, injectors, gearbox sensors or anything else that went wrong with the car, even with independent assessor stating that none of it was wear and tear.

The CSMA extended warranty, underwritten by Car Care Plan, looks quite good, it's £175 a year for the all component coverage.

Apologies - I've been quoted £333 by Warranty Direct, not Warranty Wise, for the highest level of cover.

Currently in the process of checking out CSMA

If the warrenty with Skoda is a fair price... go with that... always helps in the event of gesture of good will.

Given both the seemingly reasonable quote, and continuity afforded by a manufacturer backed warranty, I will more than likely go with the Skoda comprehensive cover (and £0 excess).

I've got the Skoda extended warranty - I simply don't trust warranties without a manufacturer connection - it may be that the Skoda one will try to wriggle out but I think you'd have a stronger case (good will as Rick TT says).

All,

Considering i have the 1.4 TSI DSG which could be a beast of a cost if it went "Pete Tong".

Was told a month ago had to get assessed by Skoda garage B4 ?? But today they said do it online.

So unless any major reasons forthcoming from fellow Rapid'iers (other than cost ;<)) I think i will go for an extended warranty from Skoda.

Given the prices mentioned here for the VWFS-backed warranty, I would be inclined to go down that route if you can get the same price.

Have done the extended (1 year) with no excess, 15k miles / year and "all component", total cost £219.

Considering i have DSG its a great peace of mind for this clever technology (love it) and all the other bits covered (or not)

On paper, that sounds pretty good. I'll make a call nearer the end of the year (my warranty runs out on Jan 2nd), but at that price I would be very tempted to go for it as well (though the cheaper CSMA option is also still a consideration).

One thing I definitely will be renewing is Skoda Assist. 2 years top tier AA cover inc European for £145 one-off payment is too good to turn down.

We are with Nationwide bank which includes breakdown cover etc

The Narionwide Flex Plus breakdown cover is the top tier Britannia Rescue cover (£80 a year via CSMA). I bank with Nationwide as well and have been putting off upgrading my FlexAccount to Flex Plus while my Skoda Assist is active. Might be putting that account change off for a couple years more - as good as Britannia Rescue is (we have previously had it on other cars in the family), I'd still rather have AA or RAC cover instead if the price is right.
