my car is 2009...thanx for reply

The very early MkII Superbs came with body coloured headlight washer caps.

They soon changed to chrome across all models.

£17.00 from Rainwoth Skoda in Mansfield via their eBay shop, although I've often found them cheaper if you ring up the parts department and order over the phone...

If yours are colour coded and you've lost one then I'd replace both of them with the chrome ones. The body coloured ones are supplied in primer so you have to either get them painted or do it yourself with a tin of paint and another tin of lacquer. By the time you've done that you may as well replace them with a pair of chrome ones.

chrome ones fitted today....easier than i thought...thanx for help

What do you think about painting the chrome ones, good or bad idea? I have the FL model with chrome covers, and would prefer to have them color coded. I would then buy two new covers and paint them, and keep the current ones so that I can switch back.

I would buy two more and paint them yourself. Painting the chrome ones can be a pain as ideally you need to strip down to plain plastic. Stripping off the chrome isn't that easy.

I speak from experience when I stripped the lower grille chrome strips. Utter pig of a job!

That's what I'm worrying about. Is it real chrome, or some paint?

I think the lower strips were chromed with the trivalent method which is a combination of Nickel, Copper and finally Chromium. chances are the light covers have been chromed in the same way.

You can strip it with bleach but frankly, it's a total and utter ****** of a job. I had a trough full of concentrated bleach solution to strip the chrome off and it still took ages with loads of scrubbing - never again!

Get the primed plastic ones, save yourself the grief!

Yeah, sounds like it's not worth it. I don't know if there are primed ones available for the FL model, but after looking at the car again I might leave it as it is. The washer cover is more like a part of the headlight on the FL, so it might look strange with white covers surrounded by the headlight material. The chrome blends in quite OK on the washer covers actually, so I might leave that piece of chrome and focus on the rest.

I've de chromed the front of my Superb but I left the headlight washer covers well alone.

There wasn't enough visual benefit in changing them to body colour, compared to the grief involved in doing it in the first place. My car is white so there's even less point in doing it compared to a dark coloured car.
