Went to Bury this morning with my wife and son...got dirty looks and when asked if I could have a test drive was told 'Well discuss finances first and then you can have a test drive." The car had scratches all over it and dog hairs all over the back. Needless to say I left it. I think I prefer Manchester Horners!!!

You live and you learn I guess.

That's pretty lousy service. Both the dealers I went to to test drive a 4x4 just chucked me the keys and said "Bring it back in about half an hour"! :)

Aaquil, I sent you a PM on the 12th, are you ignoring me? :(

Likewise me (Bickerton Skoda, Sheffield ) but they didn't mention the 1/2 hour, they just said to make sure I took long enough for them to move the VRS out from where it was parked for my comparison test drive. I'd only asked for a brochure too!

Denis I phoned then today...the saleperson I spoke to said the reason I did not get a test drive without discussing finance at Horners Bury was in case I would be expecting him to knock off £1000 off the price or was not suitable for finance?!!! He also mentioned if its not a serious enquiry then they did not probably want to put miles on the car!!! The 'clever guy' had no reasoning behind the 'dog hairs' all over the back seat and the scratches all over the bodywork. I know the car is Black and an estate (what I am now after) but he's already talking rubbish to me (as far as I'm concerned and judging by the replies) so I think I will be giving that one a miss as well. Denis just as you mentioned as well mileage (51,000 miles), good condition apparently and regular service....EX-COMPANY CAR.

Jontink...I do appreciate the link. Stuart thanks for the advice. Richard thumbs up back to you. Podwin forgive me for not replying but no offence intended but I think I want to wait for an estate maybe and I am pretty keen on a SKODA dealership one for piece of mind after my last experience...like someone mention what if you had bought the last car privately!!!!

Thanks to all...

Any comments on the 'ex-company car' with 51,000 miles for £5995?

Should I wait until January for people trying to off load their Skodas or will it make no difference? The reason I ask is because there are only a few options in terms of getting hold of an Octy soon. If I wait until January I will relying on the goodwill of my wife to let me use her car.

Any advice will be appreciated

Keep checking Autotrader daily. There seem to be some more for sale, although it may be that I have widened the price range for the search. After your last experience I would put a decent warranty high on the list - which probably means buying from a Skoda dealer.

Thanks for the advice Denis.

Should I wait until the end of January. Do you think that more people will be trying to get rid of their Skodas then...or will it make not much difference?

Thanks to all.

Anyone?

When you find the car you want buy it, if you wait until end of Feb, (new Reg March 1st) they might be a bit cheaper still but when do you stop. For the few hundred you are talking about I would just keep looking for a good one & when you find it buy it.

Stuart you are right thanks for that...I was tron between stinginess and impatience you have helped me to come to my 'enthusiastic driving senses'. I'm going on AUTOTRADER right now!

I am having real problems finding a 1.8T 4X4 that is okay mileage, colour and condition that is being sold by SKODA (or anyone else for that matter!). I was looking into possibly getting a BORA/PASSAT V64MOTION or GALANT V6 SPORT. Any comments or input on those (tuning potential/reliability issues/worth getting)?

Thanks to all

Aaquil.

At Christmas peopledont tend to worry about cars therefore the market is slow. More cars will apear in the early part of the new year so if you want a 4x4 you need to be patient, there wernt a lot sold so it stands to reason secondhand supply will also be scarce. As for the others you mention its up to you

Thanks for that Stuart.
