Headlight light

Featured Replies

When mine arrives I'll be programming several things via VCDS, one being rear lights coming on with the DRL's. My Altea has auto lights and I'd say they are on 40% of the time in the day when really speaking theres no need but I'd rather it be that way that the other way around!

TBH silver1011 I hate to disagree with a local chap but I think differently. seeing cars without lights on appropriately  nowadays is actually quite rare in my experience. maybe due to the plethora of "driving aids". the last 2 times I can remember have both been on very well lit motorways though that doesn't excuse it of course

I can only assume we drive on different roads.

Just this evening on my 62 mile commute home, dusk, street lights on:

Toyota Aygo - front DRL's only.

Fiat 500 - no lights on at all.

Ford Transit Tipper - front DRL's only.

Kia Sportage - side lights and front fog lights.

Izuzu Rodeo - dipped headlights and front foglights.

Ford Mondeo - front DRL's only.

I'd share all this with you from my dash cam footage but it would make for very dull viewing.

Don't even mention the chasing led indicators as seen on audis and ford's. More blatant fashionable gimmicks but also very very distracting to other drivers.

What is wrong with just being a little bit 'normal' and functionality winning over form.

Unfortuantly that doesn't sell cars.

It is all about the 'form' for a lot of people.

I really like the chasing indicators, they are distracting for me too as I have to watch them  :D

I actually think these will have an advantage as owners will want to show of their 'cool' indicators and use them more often!?

I thought they were on Audi's only but you are right, Ford also use them on the front indicators of the latest Mondeo, saw one earlier this week.

Good point didnt really consider that. Maybe they will encourage safer driving which would be a positive consequence of their design. I did assume they were merely a cynical fashion statement just like the land rover evoque, correction range rover evoque

I'm pretty sure you are right, they are desirable, just like the latest LED DRL's - the latest 'must have'.

The Audi driver using his indicators more often in an effort to show off his latest gadget is no doubt an unplanned but fortunate upside!

I've read some threads on here over the last twelve months. But never read such OTT nonsense. Some of you should give your heads a wobble and if you are saying you "need" a light on the dash to tell you when your lights are on.

We've got another one!

Here he is  :D

The problem is that even if there was a light on the dash it wouldn't stop a dickhead being a dickhead and driving without lights

In my opinion. ..if auto head lights stop one idiot driving in the dark with no lights on, they are worth having.

Unfortunately these 'characters' always think they know best, so have the auto mode off anyway. ..lol

Read what I wrote again. It was quite specific to the example

Sorry, I did misread your post, despite double checking it.

so please stop trolling.

However there doesn't seem to be much point in continuing this thread if that's what you think.

I recall a press clip in autoexpress (possibly) whereby a new car buyer wrote In to said journal for advice on how to reject a new car he purchased. His argument was that the DRLs were not of the LED variety. The car he purchased had DRLs but were filament lamps. Did he assume wrongly? Did he not read the brochure correctly? Did the salesperson make a false promise? Ultimately it does not matter but we at times can get really hung up and bothered by the most trivial and often minor matters. At least skoda give us the Auto function and also the option to manually turn on lights if the sensor fails.
