Cheaply resprayed wheels + Kwik Fit = big nono

:wall: :wall: My reckoning is the paint flaked off when taking the old weight off, so they probably just thought "eh we'll scratch it off whilst we're at it" although I don't know, DCM Tyres managed a weight replacement with little to no damage to the wheel so what happened there I don't know, all I know is that they should have informed me that it had happened (I mean christ I was taking the wheel away loose! Who did they think was going to fit it? Jesus? Did they not think I wouldn't notice it?) and that I will never ever use Kwik Fit ever again (and I will also spend more money on wheel resprays, don't hate me cause I didn't realise it was a shoddy respray job at the time, I was young dumb and unemployed)

First time using Kwik Fit and the last time, so long guys! Guess it is really worth the hour drive to the one I use in Shaftesbury

i reckon they decided to clean the residue adhesive from the old weight with something they had lying around (brake fluid maybe?  :notme: )

Something stronger, acid?

I didn't realise people who frequent car forums were stupid enough to go to Quickfit :wonder: :p

Don't hate me! Lol, I usually use DCM in Shaftesbury, but that's an hour away and it didn't make sense to go all that way for a puncture repair, lesson learnt[emoji14]

I bet the weights brought the pain off as they took them off,

Them stick on weight stick like **** to a blanket and can be a right pig to remove residue

That's what I said in the first line ;)

Weights have been pulled and flaking paint wire brushed to aid adhesion if new weights. Fairly standard on old corroded wheels / poorly painted. Why they didn't tell you though is another matter.

Heavily corroded if it helps you sleep at night ;)

Customers smart & knowledgeable after the fact.

yet, Unhappy when new balance weights fall off not long after paying to get them on ...

So now that you know what the back of your wheels look like,

clean them, degrease them, prepare a little and give them a blast of black at the back to tidy them up,

10 minute job really on each wheel, and 15 if you want to mask, £4-5 rattle can and 50 pence of materials. (Pot Scrubbers.)

PS

Maybe next time you get a wheel done any place, remove the weights yourself first and clean the rear of the wheel to your satisfaction, then ask the fitter if the surface is good enough for him / her to fit the weights to.
