MOT failure for Powerflex Polybush deterioration

Featured Replies

I've not asked that question TBH, but is that likely to have come loose? I also would bet my last £ that my mate would have picked that up of it was just that.

Looks a lot of play just to be a worn bush, and in your video there looks to be a lot of empty threads where the back end of bolt is visible?

**** that for kuhmos.

How old are they?(not mileage)

Might be worth picturing them and contacting kuhmo?

They were put on in March 2015.

I usully run Vredstein's but when these needed replacing last March I had been on long term sick with just SSP and funds were tight. So went back to Khumo's as they were cheap and had no previous problems with them (although that was with standar power and now think they don't work so well on my current setup, so won't go back to them again anyway)

I'll may send off some images and see. Gotta be worth an email?

Yeah that's ridiculous in under a year

Is the bolt tight?

That's only with bushes that twist with the wishbone movement?

ie standard metalistic/rubber bushes.

Poly bushes are more like a bearing, the crush tube should be slightly longer than the bushes when they are in the wishbone, then once the crush tube is clamped up tight the bushes move around the tube, hence why you get grease with poly bushes,to help them turn on the crush tube.

Yeah that's how poly bushes work as far as I know.

That was the advice from Powerflex themselves after we returned a pair of bushes.

LOL,and they supply a little satchet of copper slip too! :D

How many miles have you driven with that powerflex bushes?

Right then, the work's been done and what have I learnt??

Well, it appears that it wasn't the bush that was the problem, or the metal rod/pole, whatever you want to call it(!) or the bolt, it was apparently some rust on the inside of the wishbone where it sat had some rust.

This obviously only became apparent when my mate took it apart today after I dropped over the replacement I bought to save time and get her back in the road again.

I guess I have no recourse with Powerflex?

I've now got my hands on the old bush, which looks like this;

As for the tyres, no bulges (never trust a secretary to pass on a messege correctly!) but there were cracks along the front face of the wall:

I will be sending me an email off to the supplier I guess, if not Khumo themselves as they're in good nick otherwise with somewhere between 4/5 mm and even wear.

About 22k biased towards motorway miles being about 60% of that.

The bush still looks in "servicable" condition to me. Ovbiously not since its failed but the inside where i would expect it to wear looks like new still.

Yeah, the inside looks in very good nick.

I'm no mechanic but I can't help but think this would he alright in another wishbone.....

Was the bolt used the correct size ?

If it was a thinner bolt it would have been allowing movement within the internal hole in the bush.

DB.

Since the bolt is threaded directly into the console it would have to be the right size.

That tyre damage, was it on the outside or inside. It looks almost like something has cut into the tyre wall, its not even so could be a Stanley knife or something.

I didn't think anything of it at a glance, I see cracked tyres all the time, but the cracks even go through the lettering as well

If the wishbone has corroded, will any bush be OK in it... Or even, is the wishbone safe to be driven?

Good point.

The bushes should not slide in easy, then once the crush tube is pushed in they should be a tight fit in the wishbone.

I have no idea TBH. All I know is it's got an MOT! I'm popping tomorrow to see my mate for a catchup, do I'll chat it through with him.
