I really like 476s. I put 2-3 coats every six months or so on my previous car and it lasts ages (I think it was originally meant for yachts!).

Not had the weather coincide with any days off for me to get a layer on the new one yet...

I was going to collect my new Harley today but changed it to Thursday because of the rubbish weather, looks ok for Saturday to collect the car though :)

It's very soggy here too, (South Essex, so not surprising, W.stow isn't that far away).

I'm still dithering about ordering a 280, SWMBO has ordered a VW instead 'cos she felt that a Superb is a bit too big to be the shopping trolley car,

but she's egging me on to the get the Skoda as well, 'cos she knows that I want one!

I've never used PCP's, (but she has) & I've now had quotes that show it's cheaper to buy a discounted Superb with a PCP than pay cash up-front.

(The £2K contribution from Skoda & 2.8% interest made the deal about £470 cheaper, not much really, but still a pleasant surprise!)

I could save some money by ordering a well specified Octy vRS instead, with £1K from Skoda & 0%, so I've asked for some comparison figures, when i get them

I'll have to decide which 1/2 of the brain should decide!

Hope you can find time to run-in your 280 ASAP so that you can explore the performance.

As for the Harley, I'm not that brave. I still have my motorcycle licence, but since I passed that test in '64, I'm unlikely to be buying a bike of any sort now..........

I looked at the Octavia VRS Estate (to be different as my Brother has a VRS Hatch) and to spec it up to Superb L&K level brought it out more expensive then the Superb 220PS so I initially went for that in a hatch as I don't really need an estate. The problem then was I had an itch called the 280PS 4x4 that I kept scratching and eventually changed my order to one just before it was locked.

In all honesty I don't need the 280PS, but then again who really does ;) it's a nice to have and I'll be using some of that performance when I go the Germany in the summer so if it isn't completely run in by then it will be by the time I come back, I'm going for a run up to Norfolk when I pick it up so that will be a couple of hundred miles to kick things off :D.

The Harley is a love of mine, that feeling of freedom and although its 103 cu (1690cc) its not fast nor would you want to ride it fast its designed for cruising and they are excellent at that and they have plenty of low down grunt so accelerate quickly as do most motorcycles. I've had my days of Honda Super Blackbirds and Suzuki RF900's and prefer the lazy way now, looking forward to being a rebel without a cause lol.

I hope that you can make the decision about the car, either way I don't think you'll have made a bad choice as they are both fantastic motors.

Hopefully we'll bump into each other some time to talk about Walthamstow.

It sounds as if you have made the correct choices, after all it has to be "right" for you & yours, rather than anyone else.

I need to wander back to E17 soon, just to see if there's much left that I remember.

I'm sure that the Town Hall is still there, but the old S W Essex Tech, next door might have gone.

I was brought up in the Wood Street area & that's very different, & has been for years.

Perhaps I might be able to cadge a lift from a nice Superb driver, if only to help with the decision making process......

Cheers, DC.

You never know your luck, I guess the issue will be getting a test drive in a 280PS, at the time of mine Transcity had a 220PS with DSG that I used, haven't driven a 280 yet however Saturday isn't that far away lol :D

As far as I know the College and the Assembly Hall are still there as is the Town Hall.

Well that was fast. I've just had a voicemail from the dealer saying the car was built Monday/Tuesday and is now out of the factory and en route to the port. Weird to think our new motor now physically exists and is sitting wrapped up somewhere on the other side of Europe. :D The voicemail ended with advice to start getting excited because the worst of the waiting is over... Fingers crossed!

At 6 o´clock (Swedish time) this evening we received some great news from our dealer. Not only has our new car been produced it has also left the factory. That´s 12 days after they confirmed that the car was to be built week 9. Spot on and we are now at around 13 weeks from when we placed our order.

The salesman had not received any specific date on when it will be in Sweden but he did give us information about our new plates - the vehicle registration number . Very excited to hear from him again.

And the good news is you don't have that horrible decision over waiting 2+ weeks for a flamin' 16 plate

And it's even better that your car was built at the start of the week. You know what they say about Friday cars..... :o

To be fair if you watch any of the Škoda production videos most of the work is performed by people using hand held/controlled robotics. Most car makers are now shifting to this model, as full on autonomous robots aren't 'smart' enough compared to a human to adapt quickly to the many trim levels, options etc on modern marques. Mercedes were in the news this week announcing a return to human production lines assisted by the hand operated machinery. Robots are being shown the door it seems.

That ^

I think they'll stick to using robots for generic stuff like chassis welding, sealant application and such like (the word Robot is Czech in origin, translates to something like 'slave' or 'worker' I believe).

Humans still do a vast amount of the work, this will increase as cars become more and more complex and diverse in spec and personalisation. As you rightly point out.

Unfortunately, this also means the human element will be more and more present on the production line, hence that 'Friday feeling'  :D

Was a joke lol, know plenty of non robots who work at JLR! To be honest I'd be more worried about Monday cars the way I feel most weeks!
