New dash board (Help needed)

Featured Replies

Hope somebody can help.

does any one know how big a job it is to replace a dash board in an oct mk3. reason is i have marked the top section of mine, the cowling above the dials, and ever time i look at it depresses me big time is the car is brand new. I have bought some trim from a passat to practice removing the scratch on that and i cant.

would any one know how much an item like this would cost if it can be purchased in sections. also it must not be too uncommon if the passenger airbag goes off.

Any help would really be appreciated

Smart repair techs can fill and respray plastics.

I had a scratched glovebox door done once on a previous car.

Chips away maybe do this.

I would advise against trying to remove & refit the dashboard just for a scratch.

It will never go together again the same as from the factory & you will likely be plagued with rattles, vibrations & lots of anoying things like this.

+1 for a smart repair, amazing what they can do these days.

Picture please!

As other posts above, taking the dashboard out for a scratch is not advisable. Cosmetic repair specialist is a much better option, will be both easier and cheaper...

I've had a dashboard removed and refitted in a O3, don't even consider it. 5 days at the dealers ........

5 days for a dashboard removal and refit I think is not to bad....if it was 100% successful and you were left with no rattles and creaking.

I had a Rx8 from new and had a dash rattle, dealer suggested dashboard removal, thanks but no thanks as their 'fitters' were awful

its very rattly now, i dose not rattle when hot, or when cold, but its seams to rattle going from cold to hot,

It would be better if the thing had removable sections, that would be simply clever.

what do you do if the airbag goes off, is that a dash out if its riped when it deploys.

A visit to the local hospital first.

Yes A and E first fix the broken bones, then worry about the skoda lol

My dash is creaking a bit more now on somedays then others it appears solid and is silent!! It did have a major rattle near the windscreen to dash interface, but that disappeared of its own accord - the self fixing car - that's simply very clever

I never said it went back in OK :)

A couple of bits of damaged trim and the odd rattle, plus the gap round the glove box lid was uneven.

At least it went back in, any bits left over??

Don't know and don't care as I got rid of the car as it was a lemon :)

Another one! They make a few to many.

Probably the first of the Lemons, registered April 2013 as a launch weekend demonstrator

Yes for sure and beats mine to it as a Sept 2014 lemon

Mine is a 2015 lemon, too many silly little issues. I am now compiling a list for my first service

Do not wait till the first service, get them recorded with your dealer now and fixed ASAP IMO, gives you some leverage if it goes horridly wrong.

I was going to wait with all my niggles with my Golf but in the end just kept giving it back until it was or seemed right. Had a good chance to drive some nice VW's in the mix :)

It was a ball ache but at least they knew I would not put up with crap like I did with Ford and regretted it.

As for your dashboard you are a very brave man if YOU are considering removing it, a picture of the area affected would be handy
