Out-of-date SatNav map locations

Featured Replies

Tried following Columbus SatNav (2016 maps) to exit A43 to M40 junction 10 southbound - except the exit wasn't there! Gave up and drove towards A34 instead.

Any other issues with the current maps?

Do you mean the exit wasn't showing on the map on the sat nav? Or do you mean the exit was showing on the map on the sat nav but didn't exist on the road?

The exit was shown on the map but did not exist on the road.

The M27 has (or used to have) a non existent exit just after Hedge End (J7 IIRC) It was on some maps but not there.

I guess the latest update was before the junction was changed? I think it only opened in its present layout last October? Mine threw a bit of a wobbler today on a newly altered bit of road near Milton Keynes. When do they release the new update? More to the point, how do you get it?

The next update is due in April or May. Should be a downloadable file to be copied onto a 32GB SD card.

The updates can be found here. The next map update is expected in June.

Maps are supplied by NavTeq. They have the facility on their own web site for reporting errors but I believe you need to register with them before you are able to do so.

The map suppliers can take up to three years to pick up new details! Navteq are dreadful about auctioning errors too. I've reported loads over the years and most get ignored.

New maps are free from Skoda for 3 years and as said, the next on is in May.

PS I got caught by that M27 one years ago whilst trying to get to Swanwick Air Traffic Centre. Would have been a long drop off a bridge if I had obeyed the Smartnav system!

I've had my Superb MkII since July 2014 and each time I enter my VIN on the portal website it says there isn't an upgrade available. I have a feeling it waits until your two years is up and then hits you with an "upgrade for only £350!" message :/

The updates are for the new mib1/2 Amundsen/Columbus and will not work with the RNS510/520 units as fitted in the Superb 2.

You need the DVD update. If you bought your car from a Skoda dealership they will often do it for free - just ask.

I got one free map update from the dealer for my S2 :)

Ah, that might explain it then, I must have an earlier Columbus in my L&K. It was only in for a service recently so I'll be a bit miffed if they've not updated the maps.... :-(

They do it as a customer-loyalty courtesy rather than as any kind of obligation, otherwise you'd need to spend serious dosh to (legally) buy the genuine update disc.

Even if they offer the "service" it's not always something done as a matter of course as it takes time to update, so that's why I say "just ask".

It's worth getting it done at least every couple of years, not just for the maps but also for any firmware updates.
