Front/Rear sensors when in stop start traffic

Featured Replies

Had our S3 SE Business a little over 2 months now. Fantastic car. Just one thing.

We commute 30 miles each way daily in heavy commuter traffic. Sometimes in stop start traffic, and it seems especially if the car behind gets very close, the sensors will decide you're trying to park!?!??? And bleep and show the relevant info on the screen! Not a problem as it's easily switched off, just a nuisance distraction and loud.

Anyone else experienced this?

Normally (on other model of cars) PDC, park distance control or what ever it's called is not activated untill the car is put into reverse.

Seems odd they would trigger in traffic.

Normal behavior. If you have the front and rear sensors, then they are always on below a certain speed. I had these in my Octavia and they would fire off like that if a cyclist or motor bike got too close in traffic. Quite useful actually.

Can this be set on the S3 ?

In the infotainment system you can set how the parking sensors behave :

- Automatic mode : All sensors are active when car speed is below 15km/h and will beep as soon as they "see" something within their range. They are disabled over 15 km/h.

- Active on reverse: all sensors (front &back) will be activated only when reverse gear is engaged, and will stay active until you reach 15 km/h.
