VCDS Question(s) Parking Sensor Sensitivity

Featured Replies

Anyone know if the sensitivity can be reduced slightly? I have to drive along a narrow terrace and the side sensors are set off when I have 1ft each side (I guess they are wider than the mirrors) but even passing bikes in traffic set them off! Would be nice to reduce their range by a few cm, at least on the sides. Prob not possible though, and I suppose it's better for other people that might drive and scrape it!

Also, is there a list of recommended tweaks via VCDS, might be interested in getting things tweaked like auto dip mirrors on reverse etc!

When you are driving forwards after reversing they should disable automatically when you pass 5mph and remain completely off again until you select reverse. If they are remaining on when driving normally then something is wrong with the sensor controller or its connections.

Perhaps it is not receiving the speed signal from the canbus, and only the reverse trigger.

It is when stationary or at low speed, the terrace I have to squeeze by cars to get to my driveway with a few inches each side, but the first time a bike set it off while sat in traffic I nearly **** myself!

if you have driven forward more than 5mph, then regardless of being stationary in traffic or on your driveway the sensors should be off. Only when you select reverse should they come back on again.

Really? Even the "proximity" type display that comes up to show your close to traffic in a queue of traffic, or if someone is close to you from behind? These are silent, but after that the side sensors seem armed!

I agree with Mannyo - if you have driven anywhere forwards (to get into the traffic) then, unless you engage reverse or press the button (only if you have front sensors as well) then your sensors should NOT be active.

Ignoring the sensitivity (which I don't think can be adjusted with VCDS) there may be something else wrong with them.

I can't see the Mk3 being radically different to the Mk2 in this respect.

Are you referring to the display on the Columbus / Bolero? If so, that should only be active when YOU want it to be not generally in traffic!

Nope.

By the time I get to a roundabout about 2 minutes from my house and after driving at 30mph for those 2 minutes my side sensors warn me of an object (metal railing on the pavement) so they do work constantly at certain speeds not just when setting off.

You can switch the automatic start of the parking sensors from the multimedia system. I had the same problem as you guys and it was driving me nuts (I have a very narrow lane I drive through daily). Now I can just enable it when reversing or when I want it...

I have the park assist system on my mk3 estate also and the system detects objects regardless of your last gear i.e. this morning it stopped my from driving into a van with a step and tow hock sticking out the back, would have made a right mess of my raydar if the parking system was of and yes the traffic was heavy and slow so front assist will not stop you if creeping forward.

Width restrictions, we have loads in London anyone won't some :-) also set it off but I find the park assist system very handy as the graphics desplay on my Columbus evan when its of.

But yes its alarms came make you jump but go to ' car ' and adjust turn them down a bit.

Regards

Colin.

Yes 'Radar' has no 'Y' in it. ;-)

When reversing during a DPF regen the heat from the exhaust sets off the two left parking sensors on mine, gona speak to the dealer when it gets serviced next month.

Built in fire alarm as well. Simple clever!!!!

In the infotainment system you can set how the parking sensors behave :

- Automatic mode : All sensors are active when car speed is below 15km/h and will beep as soon as they "see" something within their range. They are disabled over 15 km/h.

- Active on reverse: all sensors (front &back) will be activated only when reverse gear is engaged, and will stay active until you reach 15 km/h.

However, in either mode you can still manually activate the system using the dedicated button.

Yep mine have gone off before when a lorry nearly squashed me on a roundabout. Side sensors went mental.
