alloy wheels leaking air

Featured Replies

Hi

my car is now 11 years old and it seems the alloys (not tyres) are leaking air, whats the fix?

Could be corrosion around the bead. Or worst case it's a cracked wheel.

Tell the tyre fitter and he'd normally grind off any potential corrosion before refitting. It's quite a common problem.

Are you definitely sure it's not a 'hidden' puncture though? Then again, either cause will still need the tyre removing to rectify it.

Most tyre fitters can do a rim seal. If that still does not sort the issue (assuming there's no puncture).

I'm afraid you may need your alloys refurbished.

I had similar experience on my old car. Tyre shop tried a rim seal twice. Problem still there on brand new tyres.

So I got the wheels refurbished and never has any more mysterious flat tyres.

As above. I had leaking wheels on my previous car. Tyre place tried cleaning them up and re-sealing but it didn't work.

Got the alloys re-furbed in the end.

Are the wheels brand new off ebay? As if they are used you may run into the same issues at a later date, therefore just delaying the problem.

Not too mention changing to aftermarket alloys MAY have an impact on your insurance. Some companies don't like the addition of aftermarket alloys and charge a premium for it.

Might be worth checking before you commit to buy anything.

changing dampers (shocks) will have no affect on ride height.
