Potential new car

Featured Replies

hiya guys and gals!! im hopefully looking to purchase a new car this year and after some advice.

i currently own a chevrolet lacetti 1.6 petrol.  now ive owned this car since it was 1yr old, and for the most part has been a brill little car.  however my family expanded to include my darling daughter a few years ago, and its now apparent that my car is now not big enough anymore to accommodate the extra luggage and leg space for a 10yr old and 4 yr old.  ive also grown sick of the £230 road tax every year, and the cambelt change every 40K miles, which is ridiculous! also its very hard to find parts for this car, as i found out last year which my car decided to burn out 3 calipers, pads and discs, fuel filter, top radiator hose and some other stuff i cant remember.

ive been looking at the octavia 1.6 tdi elegance model, and has to be said im practically in love with it now, 2015 model which has lots of bells and whistles, and most importantly lots more space!

i suppose what im asking for is anything i should be wary of which these models, pitfalls etc, and also what should i be looking forward to? also, i cant seem to find anywhere the service intervals/cambelt change times.

also if stuff does go wrong with these, are the parts easily source-able and not just main dealer specified?

ill be looking to have a test drive in one probably the next few weeks when my shift pattern allows it.

thanks in advance

You have to remember that engine is available from the whole VAG group so Audi, VW, Skoda and Seat use it meaning parts will be easily sourced.

The 1.6TDI will be better than what you're used to and an easy 50mpg in real world conditions.

Chipping it in the future could be an option if you want more grunt.

Not sure if chain or belt, I believe chain. Best bet is to post this in the Octavia III forum where you'll get lots of advice.
