Tyrewall damage.

Featured Replies

Great, hit something on the road this evening and put a split in the sidewall. New tyre needed. Still, could be worse. I was driving, I can change a wheel, I realised something was wrong before driving 50 miles on the wheel rim, it wasn't raining or snowing, and I was off the main road when it happened.

Is that a split? The photo makes it look like a small chunk is missing.

Did the tyre deflate?

Yes it's a split. And the tyre was flat within a few minutes. New tyre time.

Not good. I took the back wheels of the Octavia last week to remove the back bumper and found that one has a split that is fairly close to letting go on the inside wall. Doesn't matter on that car though as I'll just run it on Fabia wheels but with a split like that most people would never notice it because they never have the wheels off, then one day going round a corner you could be dead. Anyway, you're not dead and everything is still fine so hope you get everything sorted alright.

Was that a pot hole too?

Nope, didn't hit anything (that I saw), just a pop and deflated straight away.

A cautionary tale. it did happen to me years ago, fortunately on an old banger with likewise tyres. I managed to get my front NS wheel too close to kerb. No drama ,you'd think, but not in an old street with terraced houses, where the roof drain ( Gutter?) feeds a down pipe, which is fed through a metal covered drain( in what passes for a front garden) into the road, and the end protrudes beyond the kerb sufficient to take a large chunk out of a tyre. .
