Oil Change

Featured Replies

I have just changed my engine oil and filter in my Yeti, but the car keeps telling me to do so. How do I shut it up?

someone with vcds kit can reset it!

There's an option in the Maxidot to reset it. I did mine the other day.

What muddyboots said! I serviced mine last week, im lucky enough to have a guy who runs a garage and lets me use his kit. Ran a scan on his scanner (no faults I might add, having only had the car 6 weeks, I was a little concerned what was going to come up!) and went to rest the service indicator. It wouldn't have it with the scanner, but was really easy with the maxidot. Im surprised Skoda made it that easy!

^^^^ agree, doesn't make sense to me .....or am I just being cynical.

Ive fixed cars for years, and have never seen another in car service indicator reset that makes it so obvious to the driver.

How is the cover over the top of the engine removed? It looks like it's on some rubber clips but I don't want to pull too hard! I'm also assuming that it needs to be removed to get to the oil filter.

Just give it a good tug ☺

On my CR170, the top cover needs to be removed, then a small metal bracket needs undoing and moving out of the way, then you can reach down to the plastic cap over the filter.

You need a big socket to undo the cap (can't remember size) and an extension bar or two to undo it. Then the cap and filter element can just about be withdrawn upwards whilst dribbling oil everywhere

Thanks for that info. Mine's the 140 so I'm assuming it's similar!

I thought I might end up with oil running down everywhere!

Yep, have plenty of rags/tissue to hand, and some sort or bag/box to drop the old element in.

Have you got the right socket? It's quite large, not a size you'd typically have. Plus you'll need torx bits/screwdriver to remove the metal bracket.

I should have plenty of rags and sockets/tools/ramps to do the job. First time with a Skoda so I like to take my time and do it properly.

Just a note: if you are on variable service intervals then using Maxidot to reset it will switch you to fixed intervals.

As will VCDS, but this can also be used to revert to variable as well.

It's 32mm IIRC. I bought a socket on eBay for less than £5 that has done a sterling job so far.

Beat me to it - 32mm - mine is a Laser 0823 (1/2" drive).

Same as mine!

Your right! A good tug did the job. I didn't want to pull too hard and break something.

It's amazing the amount of pipes/hoses and things hidden under the cover. I'll have to order a 32mm socket. I've got an imperial socket which is a close fit but I think it probably is a good idea to get the correct size.

Russ

Can't help, haven't got a socket that big!

Now off to Llandinam to sing in the choir, then back to Llani for lunch in The Old Mill; SWMBO is away for the weekend with the car!!

Don't you do your own oil/filter changes Graham?

Have a good day, We've never been in The Old Mill. What's it like? I'll be settling down this afternoon to watch the rugby!

No, take it down to Sinclair's normally and have a day out in Swansea, although I have used Minerva.

Old Mill is very nice; excellent pint of Waen Brewery Pamplemouse and a butchers burger with Perle Las blue cheese and salad.

You certainly know how to spoil yourself !!

Better than cooking for myself today!!

And if the rugby carries on like this I might have to go and drown my sorrows!!

I had both.....never used them due to fixed price servicing and warranty..........but there was a perfect imperial fit but I think it may have been Witworth........remember them, a blast form the past.

1 1/4 AF = 32mm

Whitworth, BSF, UNF, AF, BA, Metric, plus a few weird and wonderful misfits:  got 'em all.....somewhere.  They never come out these days though.  When I finally "pop me clogs" someone will find a veritable Aladdin's cave in my garage!

But what will happen to them all? I often think about all my tools and 'useful' bits and pieces and what my wife will do with them if I 'pop me clogs' first!

Hang on a minute........this supposed to be about a Yeti oil change! How did it get to be about 'poping ones clogs'.

Aye,  the Thread Police will be along in a minute to yank us all back on course.  Before they do,  I'll just state that there are charities "out there" who will gladly collect unwanted tools of all descriptions for redistribution to needy folk in the Third World etc.  I've mentioned it to the wife,  since neither of my sons knows the difference between a screwdriver and a MIG welder.  You'd have thought they'd have picked up a bit of practical knowledge watching their old dad down the years,  but NO!
