If you could only choose 1 brand of detailing products

Featured Replies

which would it be?

Or is there not a single brand good enough on all aspects of detailing?

Fantastic question.. for me, which totally defeats your question...

If one or the other wasn't around it would have to be either Auto Finesse or Krystal Kleen Detail.

Both purely down to ease of use of products, cover all aspects of detailing (Not polishes which could be a problem) and do a very good job.

Auto Finesse being the most expensive of the two, in that respect it would have to be KKD for me having the choice.

Car Chem or Autosmart for me.

Chemical Guys is probably the best value for money all round brand for me.

Gtechniq for me!

Autofinesse here.

I think autosmart - whilst I've never used their polishes, I use their decontamination products religiously, so would hope their polishing side of things would be decent for the mopping I do. :)

PS: The entire concept of sticking to one brand is abhorrent to me. :D

Pleased I asked now.. didn't expect many would be open to the idea of a single brand. And that there's so many brands mentioned is interesting (and sort of expected) too. Nice one  B)

This was what I thought was going to be the general consensus   :D

I do understand that the best option is to cherry pick products from everything that's available but it'll drive me a bit nuts opening the detailing bag and seeing no consistency   :giggle:

In terms of getting started - starting out on one brand is typically the norm, and by no means a bad thing.

We know how many of us went into Halfords and emptied the shelves of AutoGlym products for example.

But you will find products that work and some that dont give the expected results..... and so move on.

So with that in mind.... cherry pick what works, whats recommended, whats great value or what works for your routine.

My current detailing regime can be covered by KKD, AD, Meguiars, Britemax, Autoglym, Auto Perfection, Gtechniq and Definitive Wax.

Chemical guys.

I think they do a very good range of products whilst may not be the best they are consistent.

Well.. the family keep aking me what I want for my 50th later this year so I'm thinking of asking one of them for a 'starter kit' on detailing.

I love the name and look of Dodo Juice, plus they do the Wookie Fist.. but notice they haven't had a mention yet.

There was another that came recommended in another corner of the interweb, Evolution Car Care. Found their facebook page but their site is unfinished (only just started by the look of it).

Some great products - you won't go far wrong.

Used AD Tar remover and tyre gel products today..... great results

Fireball Korea for me started with the samples of this very soon after bought full bottles and the drying towel is immense !

Gtechniq or Powermaxed couldn't choose

So it seems from the above comments that you all seem to think that there is a difference in product brands.  This seems counter-intuitive as the scientist in me screams that it is very unlikely that anything can actually 'bond' to the factory finish in a car for any length of time.  The dealer can show me as many autoglymm test papers as he likes I know that any layer of wax will cause water to bead vs. an absorbent sheet of paper stuck next to it.   I'm not anal about cleaning my car, but I do clean it myself and usually apply a coat of polish, which, apparently independent of brand, usually causes the rain to subsequently 'bead' nicely on the paintwork.

I usually use whatever car shampoo I dig out from the cupboard left behind by my ex years ago (he had tonnes in stock), and follow this with the first bottle/tin of car wax that comes to hand.  My current stocks consist of a part used 1 litre bottle of 'Super' wash and wax car shampoo and a 1 litre bottle of Turtle zip wax super concentrate wash and wax.  I also have a Karcher pressure washer with plug in bottles of detergent that I could use, but tend not to as I think a pressure washer is a tad aggressive.  Currently I have no car wax left and need to consider shopping for some.

So I am about to buy the most expensive car I have ever owned - I will probably make an effort to keep it washed and waxed - if I buy new stocks of wash and car wax what would the 'experts' here advise me to spring for please?
