Skoda Yeti Adventure 6 month Review

Featured Replies

Hi All.

New to the forum and new to a Skoda Yeti Adventure 2.0 Diesel 110 63 plate, 6 months ago.

I was looking for a car to replace my reliable 2008 Audi A3 Sportback ( 1.9tdi ) with a car with a little more room for me ( 6 foot 5 ) and for our 4 year old.

Here are my thoughts so far.

The initial remit of more space has easily been achieved, plenty of room for all, even anyone sitting behind me at my height and it is much easier to help a child in and out due to the raised position.

I love the look of the car from most angles.

Its is silver with the black matterrhorn wheels and it is only the front view that is a little challenging.

I have also removed the "adventure" stickers immediately.

I was initially looking for a 1.2 Urban as I do 15k per annum and was in doubt as to the best fuel for me.

I plumped for this diesel, ironically the week of  "dieselgate".

The car is therefore due for a recall but that does not  concern me too much, although it has made me think how long I will keep this version, especially coming from such a reliable engine previously.

Ideally next time I would like to see the 1.4 VAG petrol engine available but not sure this will be an option?

The car drives well, the 110BHP being similar to my Audi so just enough power I would say, but perhaps a 6th gear may be needed. It handles superbly although any unseen speed bumps result in a harsh bump on the 17 inch alloys.

The lack of a space saver wheel is a disappointment, my garage have quoted just over £200 to get fitted but unsure how this would impact on boot space ?

Also the mirrors do not fold electrically, but the other "toys " are great ie DAB radio, bluetooth and sat nav.

Overall pleased to be on-board with a car that has plenty of character but yet is practical and drives well.

I have been surprised how the car divides opinion, but in my opinion  it is a great looking car, especially in this spec.

I am looking forward to family holidays where the space factor will shine through and to getting involved with posting on this site !

Spaced wording for a more fluent read... (hope you don't mind!)

The space saver spare wheel comes with polystyrene trays and a new carpet to give a flat floor.  It brings the floor up level with the boot opening.

That makes sense ! Thanks Julie

Welcome to the forum, the Yeti is a very good all round car, the only gripe I have is with the boot space but then again I did come from an Octavia which is known for being generous in that department. I and my in laws certainly do appreciate the raised seating position and the rear seats being slightly higher than the front give even better visibility for those in the back. I have even taken them out a couple of times to use the van like space for trips to the dump.

The 1.4 petrol is available but unfortunately you have to get the top range L&K spec to get it at the moment, whether that will change in the future is anyones guess.

It sounds like you are enjoying your motor, I too have an engine included in the dieselgate scandal but I'm not going to worry about it. Have fun with your car and welcome to the snow monster club.

Ian.

My last Yeti didn't have a spare my current one does.

If I went back to placing the order I think I would leave it out. I miss the space more than I dread the possibility of a puncture. My opinion I know others disagree.

With a spare fitted the bag hooks in the boot are next to useless as the floor is so much higher.

My new 2016 L&K has a 1.4 petrol engine but it's only available in the L&K and with a manual gearbox.

Thanks Ian. I too am impressed with the ease that I can turn into a van for trips to the dump or golf holidays  :notme:

Thanks GreenlineIIestate for the other view on the spare wheel. I am undecided between a spare wheel and a possible internal back rack.

The boot size is good, but not spectacular. A spare wheel may just take up too much room, but doing 15k a year does worry me that I should have one.
