Light Assist

Featured Replies

Hi Guys.

I have a question about light assist function.

I collected today my SE L Executive. Total standard, no extras. So I didn't expected anything fancy like line assist, sign recognition and dynamic light assist.

However I expected to have standard Light Assist like I had in my Octavia III. Simple On/ Off high beam when some car incoming from other side.

How I was surprised when my lights didn't changed.

In catalogue says that SE have Light Assist, so every model above should have it also.

In infotainment in the light I have section where I can put sensitivity for it. Like Long, medium, short.

So what's wrong with my car then? How I can enable this simple function?

Thanks a lot.

"Light assist with high beam control" is a £250 option for SE and SE-L in combination with bi-xenon lights. It adds the forward facing camera to detect other vehicle lights.

"Light assistant (including coming home, leaving home and tunnel light)" is the auto position of the lighting switch. It uses the rain sensor to determine the amount of daylight. The sensitivity setting you refer to determines how dark it gets before the lights switch on or how long in a tunnel before lights switch on when the light switch is set to auto.

Try pushing the left hand stalk way from you, see if the symbol apperes on the dials.  Light swith in Auto

Think it's called High Beam Assist, not light assist, perhaps there different. I had mine activated by VCDS, perhaps it just needs turning on.

Why pay factory option prices when all is needed is a VCDS

Yeah. Didn't work for me. Looks like Bi-Xenon lights do not have that simple option like had my previous Octavia with normal halogens... And I didn't pay extra for it.

I didn't realized that I have to pay for it extra £250 ?! That's no cool Skoda.

OK. can I enable it via VCDS? I mean can somebody do it for me as I don't have VCDS and do not have intention to buy one only for change lights :-)

It's suprising what can be turned on via a VCDS, why pay Skoda for the privilege, Find a local member to you and see what can be done.

I had loads done for a couple bottles of red   Good luck

Just for you

I'm afraid VCDS won't help here. You can't enable hardware through software if you don't have the hardware in the first place.

In this case it needs the built-in forward facing camera. This is only fitted if you already have any of the options that require it, namely Light Assist, Dynamic Light Assist, Traffic Assist (Sign Recognition), Lane Assist.

Weird a bit for me. Cheaper Octavia had it by standard. Because of that I was quite surprised. It's not matter of survive ;-) Can live with switching it manually.

Even on the Octavia III it requires the front camera and it's not standard - Light Assist is a £175 option that requires the addition of further options.

I can assure you I had it as a standard in my Octy III Elegance 2013.

But I believe you. As I said. Can live with it :-) Just a bit disappointed, that's it.

The O3 has two different camera options. The "cheap one", which only works for FLA/HBA, and the "expensive one" which is for LA, RSR etc. The "cheap one" is integrated in the foot of the rear view mirror, whereas the "expensive" one is a real camera, like on S3.

There is no "cheap one" option for S3.

You can probably add HBA if you want it - it'll need a new rearview mirror with the camera and then two additional wires for CAN bus communication.

I fitted it to my MK2 Octavia where it was never an option :)
