Rear light cluster not sitting right

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Removed the rear light clusters to change reverse bulbs to LED. When I put the clusters back on, they don't seem to be in properly. I've tried a few times and can't seem to get them back to the way they were! Instead of being flush to the bodywork (as they were before) they seem to sit about 5mm away and now I'm worried about water getting in. Anyone else had this problem? It's a Scout, so an estate.

If they are the same or similar to the MkII then you need to line up the four threaded rods on the back of the cluster through the body of the car.

If this isn't done evenly then the thread on the bolt sticks or catches on the bodywork and they don't sit flush.

Normally tightening up the bolts pulls them straight...

Cheers Silver,

I'll have another crack at it tmrw. They were fiddly to get off as had to give them a good tug (no jokes please :)) but the things don't want to go back in nicely. Maybe a little more patience is required!

Oh and congrats on ordering the Scout, I actually spoke to Matthew today about a price for my dad on something. Nice chap!

Thanks

The mk3 is completely different to the mk2, there are 2 lugs on the outer part of the light which push into rubber - I bet they haven't gone in all the way.

Remove the light and put some Vaseline on the rubber then make sure they are fully clicked in before fitting the 2 screws on the inner side.

Thanks Xpower, will give it a try this afternoon!

I have just changed my reverse lights to LED and had the same problem at first. I found that I had not pushed enough of the cable back into the hole and it was interfering with the seating. When I fed as much cable in as I could, then a firm push seated the units properly.

All sorted :)

I think it was the same as you Paulius with the cable but also put Vaseline on and gave it a smack! The new LED's look great :)

Thanks again for everyone's help :)

They are a bit annoying. Done mine also last night.........simply clever my a**e

I have yet to get my rear light assembly out, they just don't want to play nicely, and I don't want to damage anything . I'll have another go............

They feel like they don't want to come out but just pull quite firmly. It's held in by 2 lugs that pop out

Firm pull and wiggle, you won't damage anything

Try moving it left/right (not more than 1 cm) while pulling. And you can also move it up/down a little bit.

Be careful when it starts to come out, the cable is not too long.

Rear light cluster removal is simply stupid from Skoda...

Like it aki78  .

Its stopped raining and warmed up a bit so I will try to have another go this weekend. If all goes well I'll be ordering new reversing lights, as per your suggestion. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/HotSale-2pcs-lot-super-brightness-High-Power-1156-led-30W-CREE-XBD-p21w-led-ba15s-Reverse/2036956876.html

I changed the reversing bulbs in mine last night - what a nightmare! Simply stupid design! I did a tiny bit of damage to the paint. I put some silicone spray on the two guide pins when putting the light units back in. Just as well I have small hands as the cable length is ridiculously short. The cree bulbs are great though.

Finally got the clusters out, pig of job without risking the paint work. As said Simply Stupid design. Vaseline'd the pins and receptors and they popped back nicely. Now to order the bulbs.
