Superb vs Audi A6

Featured Replies

Just collected my new Superb which is a DSG 4x4 SEL Executive with more than a few options on it and just covered 500 miles in it.

While the car looks great in silver on 19s and has lots of toys I can't seem to get comfortable and after an hour start to have lower back and leg pain. I feel the steering wheel doesn't come closer enough to me and that the seat feels to high and not enough leg support.I am "6,5" and have enquired about buying my A6 back which was an SLine multitronic on 19s or getting something else which would mean the wife having the new car for which she isn't keen on.

The car is averaging low 40's doing cough cough motorway speeds which is slightly lower than the A6 though it had done 120k in three years and round town mid to high 30's. Love the four wheel drive, just plant the foot and it goes which is where the Audi struggled for traction particular when the roads are wet and greasy. The DSG is taking a bit of getting used to compared to the multitronic. Love the electronic tailgate something I wouldn't of had but very useful. Only used ACC once and was a bit slow to get the car back up to speed again for my liking so that probably wont be used again. Love the LED cabin lights too though I miss the screen disappearing inside the dash at night on the A6.

Will give it a couple of weeks and a couple of thousand miles before deciding where to get something else or keep it. Can't see me loving the car like I did the A6 if honest at the moment.

Your car does look great.

500 miles is nothing... it takes more than that for you to adopt a slightly adjusted seating position and get used to it again.

MPG will improve over the next 1000 miles but s you say, " Love the four wheel drive, just plant the foot and it goes which is where the Audi struggled for traction particular when the roads are wet and greasy." --

Some of the ten grand you're saving over the Audi can go on physiotherapy! Takes a while to get used to a new car, take it down to Germany and give some wellie around the nurburgring and you'll soon find out how you get on with it.

Why is it, that people don´t do more than 15 minutes of test driving prior to buying a car?

A long test drive would reveal any problems with the seating position and so on, IMHO.

Regarding the ACC, you can adjust distance and the "reaction" of it in the infotainment system.

I did have an extend test drive for over an hour and had no issues. Driving an unfamiliar car on an hour test drive can only highlight so much. If I could of had a car for a day  where I could relax and get used to the car more, then that would be great but no dealer is going to give me a car for a day which translates into 200 miles roughly.

I have the ACC on the fastest setting, though it is still too slow for my liking.

I put over 600 miles on a Demo car from Skoda, plus i put about the same on a Passat, a C class too

See above.

No reason you cannot give it a bit of extra throttle if you think it's not reacting fast enough, I know this defeats the object of ACC but you can if you want.

I'd spend some time researching your seating position. I had a z4 a few years ago and was getting leg pain after a few weeks. Eventually I stumbled across some info on a Bmw forum (can't find it now) which showed me how to set up the perfect position. It was totally different to how I was used to sitting (much closer to the wheel than I was used to) and felt odd for a few weeks but I quickly got used to it and was much more comfortable. I now sit totally differently than I used to and have no issues with any cars I drive (I've had 40 or so)

This may help: http://www.driving.co.uk/car-clinic/how-can-i-make-sure-i-have-found-the-perfect-driving-position/

It does take time to adjust to new seats.

It could be your back resetting as the Audi A6 (and A4) seating positions are not straight. The seats, pedals and steering wheel are not in perfect alignment but off kilter slightly. I speak from experience having had an A4 for years and constant back pain; colleagues with A6 also suffered. Now being in different cars all our back pain has gone.

The last E class I had (previous ones were ok) a 2010 car, gave me a numb right leg on anything over half an hours driving, tried all sorts of adjustments but could not find a solution.

I have had no problem at all in the Superb and find the seats really comfortable, but as usual nowadays with all modern cars cannot read the top half of the dials!

+1 for the opinion that you need to work on finding the optimum position for the seats.  First few days for me I felt the seats were not long enough and had a 'sit up and beg' alignment.

After a few days of fiddling and using the 3 memory positions to hold previous attempts I found what was comfortable. Now with the 3 memory slots I have 'really laid back' ; 'almost normal' and 'boy racer' for however I feel at the time :peek:

I am with you on the seats. I did NL to UK and back about 1200 km round trip and I had dead ass both times. Must say it was only me as none of my passengrs complained. Never had that on my A4. The Audi feels premium and thats why you pay more.

Don't agree, but each to their own. The only feeling i associate with an A4 is 'small' and 'overpriced' :)

If you had a test drive for over an hour with no issues, and then with your new car start to feel pain after and hour... it's clearly a question of seat adjustment. First time you didn't feel pain, so I'd bet you need to find a better driving position, it's not as inmediate as people think.

That's why I'm glad that mine has memory settings as every time you take it somewhere to have something done it takes me ages to get the seat and the mirrors back to the right position!

I remember finding an Audi label underneath the front seat of my present S2 Elengance.

And I don't think you will. A6 is by far better car. I am disappoited with new Superb owning previous model for 7 years and covering 200K in it.

You'll find plenty of Audi and VW stickers.  In fact, in some parts there are more Audi stickers than Skoda ones due to the commonality of parts used

Maybe the A6 is better. But it's also smaller. And more expensive!
