Cat accident all over rear seats, uh oh

Featured Replies

So, long story short, my cat had to go to the vets, he's not very well. On the way home after I picked him up from his op he had an accident, managed to pee himself and it's ended up on the rear seats.

As you can imagine it fecking stinks, I've taken the seats out and give them a scrub with some warm soapy water, they're currently in front of the radiator but they still smell bad. Anyone got a idea what to try next? I bought some cheapo upholstery cleaner from asda but I doubt it's going to get me anywhere.

At the moment I'm thinking a bottle of the oder stuff for animal **** from pets at home then some interior cleaner maybe?

Any ideas?

Cheers

Fire! Good luck cat **** stinks! Try the odour neutraliser sprays

might aswel write the car off mate.

Burn it.

More seriously don't use any more standard cleaners. You need to get the special cat pee enzyme cleaner stuff. It breaks down the pee.

Could try the 1001 pet spray stain stuff, took the smell of hedgehog pi$$ out of my old car..

dunno about effectiveness on cat though. Either write off, burn it out or try a scrappy for some new seats...

Well spotted!

Try contacting some vets to see what they use. Or Crime Scene clean up companies.

:D I'll try some odour eliminator stuff and see how far I get. Sadly, having a rare car means a desperate lack of spares/cars in the scrappy so I might as well try this for now.

Speak to an upholstery / carpet cleaner.

My FIL does this and he had some stuff that was very good for removing cat stink.

They might have some machines to get the stuff deeper into the fabric / sponge.

TBH might be worth speaking to your insurance company and seeing about a claim for new seats.

Cat pee is up there with Sarin and Mustard Gas.

My cat peed on the matress when she accidently got shut in the bedroom for a day. Took me about 3 weeks of spraying 1001 carpet cleaner and fabreeze on it everyday until the smell was gone. Didn't really fancy the cost of a new matress though.

It is awful. I cant claim, if it really come to it I'd have to wait until a set come up used, they'd only be £200 or so but it's just waiting for them to appear. I was thinking a rug doctor might be worth a go if this plan fails.

I've bought some cat/dog pee cleaner from kennelgate, used a full bottle to really soak it, got a second bottle for after it's dried a bit. Fingers crossed it'll improve it, even if it takes a few goes I can keep going with the cleaner each day.

from memory rug doctor do a pet stain detergent alrigjt so might work

Think you''ll need to strip the seats down to sort/properly clean .

Not sure it's the same on the rear seats but on the front ones you can unclip the cover (eventually!)

I had a similar issue with milk a few years ago

Try Milton the stuff they use for sterilising baby bottles ,obviously dilute first.

A friend left a fresh meat joint under my passengers seat  forgot it and it leaked over the carpets ,4 hot summer days later the smell surfaced and it was pretty bad but Milton killed it stone dead.

A local car dealer who I asked in desperation put me onto it, he said it  removed pet smells / kids sickness and mostly everything you get in the car trade.

I got the cat pee smell out of my boot using Sunlight Soap. It's only a thin carpet though. When my daughter peed in the back of our other car it took a few goes and some weeks for the smell to go.

+1 for asking vets and trying Milton.

Wow, Sunlight soap, a blast from the past...

I've got Asda fabric freshener and have used it for the same thing.

It says on the instructions. spray evenly from a distance of 15 to 30 cms until fabric is slightly damp. Allow to dry. Odour will fade as the item dries. add more as required. obviously test a small area first.

I think Febreeze do one as well.

I used the second bottle on the seats, the instructions say to wipe excess with a towel after a hour but thicker upholstery may need rinsing. I decided to get the hose out and just sprayed them until the water coming out wasnt foamy. :D Left them in front of the radiator overnight to dry, they're much much better now. The mrs doesnt reckon she can smell pee anymore but I think you can just smell a little bit still. I think I'm going to Febreze them each day till my rest day on thursday then put them back in the car.

After you have put the seats back, leave an open and almost empty bottle of Febreze in the door pocket.  This will help to remove any residual smells.

When I bought my 1-year-old Roomster, I used this method to rid the interior of the stench of fags.

Get a vax/carpet cleaner on it and yes as some people have suggested an enzyme based product.

If you don't want to take that route, try biological washing liquid/powder (For clothes) and make a solution of that up and clean it up with that.

You will of course need to then wash it off with clean water, so the extraction method is easier and less likely to leave the seats wet for ages.

EDIT: Seen you seem to have it solved, oh well useful info for anyone who has a similar misfortune.
