Sat Nav Issues

Featured Replies

Hiya,

I purchased my new Fabia 3 days ago, and I have to say I love it! (Pic below in the green)

One thing I do have to say though is Sat Nav was fitted by the dealership and not as standard on the car itself.

It's happened a few times now where it keeps saying 'Sat Nav lost connection' when I haven't used the system as of yet.

Is there a way to fix this or will it need to go back to the dealership?

I never had that problem on my 2014 Mk2 Monte Carlo. Have just upgraded to a Mk3 Monte Carlo - any Sat nav now is via your own smartphone

Is it the Kenwood/Garmin dealer retrofit system?

E.g. you hold the media button down and it goes into satnav?

......if you have a smartphone.

My Tom Tom mounted on a Brodit bracket is working brilliantly, it's easily demountable and mounted nearer eye-level than the built-in system. For £99.99 it also included lifetime map updates for whole of Europe. And it can be moved between vehicles. Works for me.

Yes, they now assume everyone has a smartphone.

Definitely a retrograde step.

I'm using Google maps via Android Auto on a Motorola E 2nd generation (£70).

Ideally I would be on an unlimited data plan,as it eats into it very quickly, and I have to download the map over wi-fi then switch off data on the phone in the car.

Just had the Kenwood/Garmin satnav retro fitted and absolutely love it! Seems to be unbelievably quick and really accurate. Lane changing animations are good as well. No issues with connection yet!

£599?

£599?

Yep its £599 dealer fit option. Cheaper than factory sat nav, but if you can get Smartlink working for your satnav, thats cheaper still isnt it, apart from data costs.

Its the data costs that are the elephant in the room...

Cant say am very happy about not having a cd player..

I know you can stick a stick into the system but you still have to download existing cd's onto the stick and it takes forever..

much prefer the idea of the cd's can always use as a garden work of art .freebee etc

With the Kenwood/Garmin are you able to report and update any changes to the roads and speed cameras you find necessary.

The Bexhill link road has recently opened its about 3 miles long and it doesn't appear on any of the navigators I've

recently checked.. ??

HERE Maps need to update their app to work with Mirrorlink/Android Auto. You can download any country you like to your phone, and then there's minimal data usage as it's just using data for traffic and POIs, the actual maps are saved over WiFi.

Also- and I don't know if this is a new thing or not- Google Maps on my Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge) the other day asked me if I wanted to save my local area. Might save some data!

I think the problem with the Here maps app might be that it is Windows application so will never work with mirrorlink/android auto. If that is right, that is a shame cos the Here maps are brilliant. I use a Windows phone and it is fine save that there are many apps which are available for Apple/Android devices which simply are not available for Windows users. Until that issue is properly addressed, Windows phones will never develop the following they probably deserve. My next phone is almost certainly not going to be a Windows phone.

Dealer supplied & fitted the Kenwood in our Monte Carlo FOC, & it's very good indeed.

Same here- if it wasn't available, then I would have thought harder about jumping ship to Android too! I still think WP is a nicer OS, it's just the lack of other apps and the fairly boring flagship in the 950 that meant that I jumped to the S7 Edge.
