Columbus SDCard Setup

Featured Replies

Hi

I am just working my way through all my music and ripping to FLAC so that I can enjoy the Canton system fully and have a couple of questions regarding the setup on the SDCard.

1.  Does the system play the tracks via their tagged Track number or is it by File Name?

2.  Are there any limits to folders and tracks that I need to worry about, I have seen several posts on here and am thinking that if I use:  Artist as the folder name and then the music within that there should not be any problems?

Thanks

Paul

Hi,

I have music by artist as folder, with albums underneath and it works well. Display shows album cover when playing.

1) Yes, it uses the track numbering tag, reverting to alphanumeric file names for sorting if the tag is empty.

2) The limits are 1,000 files/folders per folder and appears to be 10,000 total per storage device.

You'll struggle to reach any of these limits if using solely FLAC.

I haven't tried it on the new Columbus (nor the old one either) but the old Columbus had a folder nesting depth limit of 8 folders from root. There is no folder limit specified, that I can find, for the new Columbus.

If mixing tracks together from multiple albums into a single collection, as I have done, it is advisable to renumber the tracks and create a pseudo "album" (I just used my vehicle registration as the album name).

Use a metadata tag editor to do this and also tag the tracks as a compilation, otherwise you end up with an unmanageable album menu, with each track appearing as a separate album.

Thanks BillyJim, really appreciated.
