Is ACC safe?

Featured Replies

Let me start by saying ACC is amazing. We are not very far away from serious driverless motoring. It does almost everything just link in the sat nav and speed up ability to turn corners which it clearly can with parking and I could easily sit there and not do anything . BUT right now I think there is a little gap in the physiological impact of using ACC. I think folks can very easily get forgetful in the same way as one does if they switch from driving an auto then a manual or vice versa. I seriously expect to hear of accidents because someone forgets that they have NOT set the ACC and as a result forgets to break thinking the ACC will do it. This could be just crawling in traffic or more high speed incident. However much I love the ACC I think I need to wean myself off using it. Contrary thoughts or am I missing something?

I love it, if people are daft enough to still text whilst driving I think acc is the least of our worries, I do see your point though. Although, front assist would still kick in and warn you should acc be off.

Doesn't the new Superb have crash mitigation on it?

I guess it depends on people's mindsets when they use ACC. Sensible drivers will take the opportunity to be more alert to road conditions and potential hazards without having to worry so much about regulating speed. But there will be some idiots who will take the opportunity to check emails, texts etc whilst assuming the car will look after the driving. Those are the people we need to worry about!

I've done this, it does take a little getting used to. Not as much as having to put the handbrake on though!

Not got my S3 yet but M62 J22-J27 should be a good testing ground most days!
