Oil change

Featured Replies

Got a 07 octy petrol vrs recently bought and just coming near min on dip, I don't know what oil was used previously but it still looks clean, ive bought 5w 30, and a new oil filter, would I be best off draining all current oil or just topping it up? I've been told it doesent matter "too much" when mixing oil as long as it's suitable for the car but wanting a second opinion from you at brisky, cheers.

If it were me I'd change the oil and filter for piece of mind.

If it's clear and showing at bottom of the dip limit it will only need a cup full ish to bring it up to the middle area. Little chance that wrong spec oil already in it, so just top up with correct spec oil. Save money, save waste.

IMO it depends when it was last changed. If you need to drain it out for whatever reason, I've been recommended by members here to change it anyway. Personally I wouldn't really mix the brands. As long as it all meets VW504/507 it should be fine, but it'd just feel wrong ha.

How long to the next change? (presumes fixed service) If it's 2 or 3 k miles then I'd top up, but if it was 8k I'd do the extra change so I knew what was in it.

If it's on variable service, then you need VCDS or a garage computer to reset the service schedule without it swapping to fixed, and the choice of fully synthetic oils that meet the standard is much lower anyway.

In such case I would change it.

For example I would change oil every 15k km but as I do it myself and when it's possible (I do it in my relative's garage) then it usually comes earlier - 13 or 14 k km - whenever I visit him. So, changing it a bit earlier isn't a bad thing. Maybe it's a little bit waste of money.

I don't understand why you people so worry about that fixed or variable servicing (I understand that in most cases people talk about that service reminder)? Forget it. Just type down when you should change the oil and do it then. If you don't forget to pay for insurance, to renew your driving licence etc. then you might remember oil change as well.

I got it about a month ago an was told it has just been changed, I've drove around 1500miles since and there is an oil leak from breather pipe which I'm waiting on the part to fix it, which is probably why it's nyon limit and is still clear think I'll top it up, I've got 5w30 which is recommended

You do not mention where it was previously serviced, or the oil change done???

Personally if still clear, I would top up. I suspect not many on here would top up though, or at least admit to doing it. :p  Lol.

which 5w-30?  does it meet VW502.00 or 504.00 spec?  Plenty don't.  If you are just topping up it won't matter but if you are doing a full change, you should be using the correct specification of oil as well as the correct viscosity.

I've got comma pro-life 5w30 for my petrol 07 vrs

Coops check the back of the can, if it says vw 502 or 504 then happy days to top up or full change

Managed to track it back to garage who serviced it and can confirm it's on 5w30 so happy days, cheers lads.

Sorry buddy, but you still seem to be missing the question of the VW approved, or not ie spec 504.00 or 507.00.

I myself do not know just how critical this is. That's all.
