SEL: 17" wheels

Featured Replies

I am idly thinking of changing my mk2 petrol SE+ Estate for a petrol mk3. The SE+ specification (alcantara and electric seats + Amundsen satnav) was ideal. The nearest mk3 spec. is the SE Business but this is diesel only. To get the spec I want on the SE ends up costing more than the SEL. However, I particularly want 17" wheels for comfort and a certain resistance to pot holes and the SEL seems to offer 18" minimum. Does anyone, especially a dealer, know whether the wheels could be swapped over?

Thanks in advance

I'm sure you will find a member who would be willing to swap.

Pretty sure you can order the car with the 17's.

You have the choice of no cost option on the SEL to go 17". You're thinking exactly as I did last September when I ordered mine. Also, replacement tyres will be cheaper too. More than happy how they look on mine too!

thanks both for your replies.

TBH the 18s are perfectly comfortable and the 19s look so good I'd be tempted to put up with the odd pothole here or there, hardly the toughest challenge a man has to face in his daily life...

Not sure if it was just my dealer but when I enquired he said if you order 17" wheels on the SEL then you get the spare wheel included at no extra cost as you are going down a level from the standard spec. I ended up with 18" in the end so not sure if what he said was accurate.

I have never worried too much about the look of the outside although I would have drawn the line at a Ssanyong Rodius.

Personally, I think 19" wheels on a saloon car look silly and on mine the 17" ones are perfectly fine.

I think as a S3 is such a big car.... the 19's look well... however im from yorkshire and tight so 17's got my vote with the BIK.

Couldn’t disagree more, I have just removed my 17” winter wheels and the car looked crap on 17’s compared to the 19’s that are back on.
