Is it posible to add Smartlink to a Bolero radio via software update?

Featured Replies

Hello.

I just bought a new Fabia with the Bolero radio, but it comes without Mirrorlink or Smartlink.

Can one buy the update or update the software in order to load it? I think it is not a hardware limitation. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Hugo

Your Skoda dealer can buy a licence for it and install it for you. Costs approx £150 here.

Android auto and CarPlay aren't available in all countries though:

Android Auto compatible vehicles and stereos are currently available in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Thank you. I'm in Chile, it seems it is not available yet, but this means in the following months when it arrives I could be able to get Smartlink + CarPlay without any additional physical hardware, just software. I hope it will be posible.

Thanks

I was not aware this was case or that any such software update has become available; can you provide any more information?

FAQ says no http://www.skoda.co.uk/about-us/mirrorlink-faqs

My Fabia was manufactured the last days of December 2015 so from what I've read in several forums it should be capable, I thought Smartlink was standard equipment since May 2015.

We have just purchased a 2016 Octavia 2.0 TDI SE. When we were given the sales pitch we were told that it inluded the Smartlink technology and that all we needed to do to use it was downlaod an app called 'Carplay' for our iphones. This sounded ideal as our model didnt include sat-nav and we were told that the screen would mirror the sat-nav on our iphones...

However, when we collected the car we discovered that Smartlink was not in fact activated and the dealer then offered to do this for around £140 and an hour of our time. We politely declined.

I have since written to them complaining that we were sold the car with Smartlink activated so have been mis-sold this product. I am waiting for a response...

Incidentally the Apple Carplay app that we were told to download does not exist.

Not an iphone person, but as far as I can see on my wife's iphone, there is an option called "carplay". I think it was in settings or somewhere. Anyhow, check this out: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205634

That's poor. CarPlay is compatible with iPhone 5 onwards - you just plug it in with a USB and it should work. Dealers that give such false information should be shut down.

Apple CarPlay is not really an App - it's part of the Operating System iOS.. Stupid dealers! As said as soon as you iPhone is plugged in you should be prompted if you want to use it/allow it or not! Once it's working it looks like this ....

But remember and map use as SatNav will use your data bundle unless you have offline maps installed on your phone!

Just to note as well, if anyone's worried about their data usage, I use maps daily and I'm on a 2GB data plan... never gone over. Just in case anyone's wondering how much they need etc...

Hello. In my radio there is no Smartlink / Android Auto option and in Skoda they say that they can not even activate. Are there alternatives?
