Running In

Featured Replies

Skoda and most manufacturers suggest gentle / normal running in. Equally mechanics have told me for a modern TD engine an Italian style of driving during running in prevents bores from glazing, which is a major cause of oil usage in new cars....

What did folks here do?

Let it warm up, and drive normal. Not to gentle, not to hard.

Given that there is nothing in the manual or otherwise to indicate that a running in period is required, and that the engines are fully warrantied, why not?

And anyway it's not like these god awful diesel engines are the sort of thing you want to redline.

My 1.4 was run in with a 1400 mile trip to France along the autoroutes and then town and mountain driving. It has not used any oil. I think the key is not to rev it hard.

Maybe i should change my name to Wrongy McWrongface?

I got the dealer to change the oil at 1,200 miles in case of swarf. Not had any oil usage issues so far (6,200 miles now).

+1 to the 1200  mile oil change and results.
