Sound like a good deal?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I posted this on the newbie part of the site, just thought i would post it in the relevant car section.

I have been offered a Y reg VRS,13,000 miles on the clock,

Seems a bit cheap mate but then again this time of the year maybe the seller needs money for presents and the taxman in the new year. VRS are quite popular and even though they are excellent value for money they still usually are not that well priced? Could be wrong but I am the paranoid type. AA car check over, plug in job at SKODA and HPI check.

Wait for advice from the other guys they know far more about these car than I do.

Aaquil.

cheap?have i stepped in a time warp?

Do a quick search see what comes up and you will soon see the resonable prices out there.

Oh yes... (divvy) I didn't realise it was a Y reg!!! Check out prices on the AUTOTRADER quite a lot for sale at the moment.

this is off autotrader:

2001 Y Reg SKODA OCTAVIA 1.8 20V Turbo VRS

Authorised Skoda Retailer. Supplied & Serviced by ourselves from new. £6,999.

I don't think the 7500 is that bad?

£6,999 for a Skoda dealer seems reasonable. But like you say, for £500 mpre you could get one with significantly less mileage.

If I were you I'd go and haggle with the dealer on the £7500 car (though if you're p/x ing an MG you may not have much bargaining power)

I haddnt noticed one has a tracker - if you can stretch to that one it'd be worth a look, and its already been remapped (those 2 mods alone could save you £900 later on)

Nah, 7500 is about right, but question why he's only done 3k miles a year...

Sadly MG's are a bane for dealers, my sister part ex'd her 53 MGTF the dearler had it up for 2k more than she sold it for now its still there rotting away at 1k more they cannot give it away, but thats their problem after all they want sales so get the best price you can and haggle all the way.

Have you considered putting the MG through an Auction? If you call your local autioneer they will give you the CAP (currenty auction price) for A1, average & below average cars.

Thanks a lot for all that. You guys are great:thumbup:

If I went for the remapped one do I tell the insurance? Would it go up a lot?

Cheers!

edit:just done a search for the insurance thing loads of reading there!

You've done the right thing doing a search for it ;)

Try and get proof of tracker installation/subscription too. That should reduce the insurance premium.

Just managed to sell my ZS for £3650 - 53 reg with 16000 on the clock. Actually the dealer who I'm taking the VRS off managed to sell it via the trade.

Prices are firming but there is a lot of hostility out there still, despite the fact parts are easy to get (MGR sold the parts business to X-part (catapilar)..

If your car is in good order approacher a small MG Rover Dealer. They are managing to sell the last of the new cars and some, I know are desperate for clean examples to keep their customers until the new ones come from China.

Alternatively you could register on mg-rover.org - pay £10 bronze subscription and advertise it there. I'm sure someone from there would buy it.

just make a note that i called about every single vRS on the skoda used page. they almost all listed trackers but when i called none of them had them fitted!!!
