Front Assist - False Positive - Braking nudge!

Front Assist - False Positive - Dodgy Moment!

Has anyone experience any false positives with what i think is Front Assist / Radar trying to take over the braking as it starts to prefer its self for possible collision ?

Tonight had a false positive moment which unbalanced the car for a split second when the brakes gave me a "warning" nudge which took me a bit by surprise.

I was driving a common road where its known for traffic to build up at the distance traffic lights, however there's a fork left turning as the road branches off.

I have done a diagram below to demonstrate the road to help build the picture, but in short, green is the route I take and red blocks are queuing stationary cars.

Travelling down the green line at approx 30mph, maybe a tad slower as approaching, its an open junction and non urban you tend to just fork left with the flow. however the car decided it get involved by throwing a warning message out and a split second later giving a bit of hard braking nudge the second before i was due to turn to the left !!!

The car had obviously thought i was ready to plow into the car in front...

Sounds like you made your turn rather fast and close to the car in front of you?

Close... plenty of room  :)

Hehe :)

I have a junction on my weekly route that is identical to the one you describe. I shall hurtle headlong toward it with gay abandon next time I go through and report back.

I have had it ‘throw a wobbler’ a few times now usually when the vehicle in front pulls into a lay-by, I assume the car cannot recognise these as despite the vehicle in front being fully off the road the car does not like it one bit so will brake hard and put up the warning sign above (in red though... colour maxidot?))

I had a very similar experience yesterday but was surprised it didn't try to brake more. The collisions sign was lit for at least 5 seconds but I didn't feel it brake at all as I kept my foot on the gas.

Yes, couple of times with me.

Isn't the warning "bong" a bit pathetic though!

Seriously, is there a warning bong? I didn't think my media player was on that loud! My friends at work have poo pooed all of the driver assistance on the S3 but I told them they are only there to help and all can be over ridden. That's exactly what I did yesterday, quite safely, but it's good to know you have some help there if you are somehow distracted.

Yep, a couple of times at roundabouts with the left filter access lane (right of way onto the roundabout). Seems to be that the system sees the potential obstruction and then as you move to the left and the obstruction thus starts to move out of the scanned area all is well again.

The bong might be a bit pathetic but it still makes me jump when it goes off.

We need a brave volunteer to try and drive into a parked car at 30 and see if it does indeed try to stop a collision rather than just bong away!

My brother suggested I try it out the first week I had it, but I declined.

I wonder if a large cardboard box would trigger it ? And not cause damage if not...

I have had this a few times in my Octavia 3; threw me a bit first time!

Had this happen quite a bit, it's a tad annoying and could technically cause an accident rather than prevent one, however I'd rather have front assist on than off.

It's done it to me a number of times on approach to the same bend on a NSL road, I think it sees the chevron signs as a vehicle so takes action with the warning beep, message and a sharp tap of the brakes.

Also happened on a dual carriageway as the radar seemed to think the car exiting on the rather short, narrow sliproad was directly in front of me, when it wasn't, it applied the brakes very sharply, braking me from 70 to about 50 and could have easily caused me to be rear ended had the road been busier.

yes happened 3 times i think and without any obvious reason, very annoying!

I have not had the nudge since.. but the alert a couple of times... when i thought it was been a bit "sensitive"

Had a few of these in similar circumstances with cars going into lay-bys. Yesterday it kicked in after a pigeon went across my nose at low level! Didn't know the car had anti-bird strike radar!!
