how to test my car alarm

Featured Replies

hi i have just purchased a octiva 2011 and im sure it has an alarm fitted i just want to test it so i know how it sounds can anyone help please?

lock the car while you are inside, wait about 30 seconds to a minute and then move about and the interior sensors should set it off

With VCDS you can do output tests.  :)

Yes like you would normally.

This is a good idea, do you know if you can see the input in the measuring blocks for the interior sensors to check those as well?

Lock the car with the remote

Unlock the car using the keyblade in the door, open the door and wait. Don't turn the ignition on.

Alarm should go off after 20 seconds

Open the window, lock the car, wait 30 seconds, then stick your head inside. While you're on doing this, test the "one button press to lock" versus the "two button press to lock" and see what the difference is, so that you know how to properly deadlock the car.

You should unlock the car with the key manually, start it and then the alarm should go on (like stated above).

Sitting in the car might not have any effect because alarms are different. Some of them got sensors inside the car, some not.

Surely all the Octavia's have though

Not necessarily. If it's fitted on factory then might be but if it's done in some garage then they might be very different.

When I had my alarm done (hadn't been installed on factory) then I had different choices. I chose sysem with sensors inside the car but I could avoid them.
