Have you known of a 1.4 TSI twincharger that had the correct quantity of oil in and then had a Low Oil light or message come on because the oil had dropped by only 250ml?

 

There are numerous owners that have not had a warning light or message and 1000 ml was not enough to bring the oil back up to 3.6 litres.

when my light came on, it would be just below hatch, and take a litre to get to just above hatch

Cheer for the replies, just to update it took a little under 1/2 litre of oil to get the car to the oil level it was when I picked it up, then a further 1/2 litre to get the oil to where it should be, checked the speedo and I've done a little over 1000 miles, so I'm guessing 1/2 litres in 1000 miles is withing tolerences for the engine?, anyway it will now be on my list to check the oil regularly 

OK.

Now you know the levels, just do not overfill, and do not stress.

Just check occasionally with a cold dip.

 

As to the acceptable Oil use,

Skoda / VW say 0.5 Litres in 1,000 km (621 miles) so 1 litre in 1,242 can be acceptable.

 

Thats trash though and they know it, and official Oil Consumption tests are pants.

Many owners have had 0.3 litres in 1,000 km accepted as being too high oil consumption.

Then had Oil Spray Jets replaced or even engines.

After all VW know there are fundamental design and manufacturing errors and quality control issues, 

and this is why the failure rate of CAVE engines was so high, and there can still be issues with CTHE due to Oil Spray Jets, Software, Spark Plugs etc.

 

A little oil use is not an issue, but a spark plug getting carbon build up and oiled and cooked, 

or valves burning out is. 

So just keep an eye on oil usage, watch out for Mis-Fires or Engine Warning Lights and take action if any issues show.

(When you get a Low Oil Warning Light, opening the bonnet puts the light out for a short while,

that does not mean the engine does not need oil.)

Yep I should hopefully find out today/tomorrow exactly what was done under warranty last year after the failed consumption tests, I had the spark plugs changed on Friday, got the garage to keep the old ones, they looked a little black but not too bad and the tips seemed fine. I have notice the car is running better (not that it was bad before) on the Denso plugs

That's good. I wish mine only used that every thousand miles i'd have an even bigger smile on my fizz.

Well Finally got the info from the dealer, car had new oil jets and breathers fitted along with an ECU re-programme/update, they went on to say that the  cam sensor had an issue so this and the timing chain were replaced. The bit that I'm slightly concerned about is that he goes on to stat that the 3rd (& final) oil consumption test proved it to be just in spec so no further action was required, with the just in spec slightly worrying me lols, butI'm happy for now, I'm keeping an eye on the oil usage and also have a warranty that covers pretty much everything including the engine and gearbox so that's giving me piece of mind. The only other slight worry is that the dealer also advised the previous owner paid to have new spark plugs fitted at the same time (oct/nov last year) but when I had the plugs changed a few weeks ago they looked a lot older than 5/6 months old.....

I had to change the plugs on mine every 10k.
