For sale thread on route in the next couple of hours for those interested....

I will link it once I have completed it!

Steer clear of the Vitos, they appear to have a rust problem , vw are overpriced and not as reliable as the propaganda would have you believe the vivaro is by far the largest with the biggest seats but a bit van'ish to drive

Thanks for that terry although not totally decided yet I have been steering towards the Seat Alhambra as it is VAG and appears we would be able to manage with a vehicle this size.

Grand Espace and Voyager both ruled out due to massive reliability issues and Hyundai i800 just aren't within the 6k price bracket.

Problem solved keep the 3.6 and fit this

Obviously with Skoda approved roofbars and a couple of more bungee cords cause using just 1 is plain daft :D

So my Superb sold the other day and I have been looking through Autotrader at numerous boring 6/7 seater vehicles!

My work colleague then suggested a Volvo XC90?!

After some searching, research and viewings I pick up a blue XC90 tomorrow 2007 57 plate with FSH very nice clean example.

Now onto looking at motorbikes...

Nice choice the XC90. Meanwhile I'm trying to get dealers to sell me a 3.6 Superb and take my Optima off my hands...hahaha!

That was a good decision in the end!  Best of luck with the Volvo...

Yes, agreed....a good decision. I'd forgotten about the 7 seat capability of those things. I seem to recall its the family wagon of choice for Clarkson too....although with the new Amazon deal it'll probably be an Escalade now ;)

Enjoy the XC90 - petrol or diesel?

It's the D5 2.4 litre diesel with 185bhp. It's nice to drive not fast as it's very heavy but the rides very smooth.

Will create a new thread in the non skoda section if your interested.

If automatic gearbox prepare for problems.... as well as volvo junky 4x4 haldex

I had a XC90 for a 3 day test drive , a lumbering beast of a thing I thought. Not very fast and awkward to manoeuvre in car parks etc , full of electronic gizmos which are annoying when new and expensive when getting on. I wondered why people drive around in these things and other vehicles of this type like land rovers on a daily basis, needless to say I didn't get one

I understand everybody's opinions but I like it! Yes it is a beast it's big and cumbersome but still goes well. Mine is a 57 plate so avoids the earlier AWD problems and the autobox seems to be strong.

It's no Skoda Superb 3.6 but the high driving position is great as are the big tyres with massive sidewalls as I don't have to swerve to avoid all the potholes and worry about damaging my alloys.

Overall I think it was a good buy as I still have a boot even with all 7 seats up and much prefer it to the people carriers that I test drove.

Oh and it got me out the muddy field whilst watching British super bikes at Oulton park today!

Still enjoying the Volvo Chunk?

Funny how times have changed isn't if? When we were kids there were 4 of us and we managed with a Morris Minor now you need a charabanc!

On the motorbike thing I feel a bit uneasy on my S1000R at times because I'd like to see my grand daughter grow up but you can't hide from death so why worry?  ZX6 is a nice bike though but I like to sit up and see a bit of the world though, think I'd look at something like a Street triple these days.
