Voice control not available

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. I'm new to this site so bear with me. I have just become the happy owner of a Fabia Estate 1.2 tsi SE. It was built at the end of July 15 and has the multifunction wheel. I can use the bluetooth phone function via the touchscreen bolero but when I press the button on the steering wheel for voice control I get - voice control not available - on the maxidot display. Do I need to set it up or something? Any help would be much appreciated as I can't find much on the internet. I can't be the only one (hopefully!) Thanks

Did you specify voice control on your order? I know on my brothers SEL he didn't but he still has the button which does nothing!

I specified it and it worked straight away no setup required!

I don't have the voice control option, but I can use that button when I have my phone connected via android auto. I press and hold and it lets me talk in the same way as when I say OK Google.

Hi. Thanks for the replies. I got the car pre reg so couldn't specify any extras and as you have confirmed it is an option. Not sure if it can be added now post production?? One good thing is that the car seems to be a later build including smartlink so I should be able to have a go with android auto and like you say, maybe I can get google to work with this mystery button. I have not had much chance yet so will have a play tomorrow. Thanks again and any more advice would be great.

I think the voice control can be activated either by the dealer or someone with VCDS.

Was your specification of voice control a cost option?

Yup, but not exactly a bank breaking one at £30.00

Daveface - many thanks. I agree not bank breaking (to buyer or dealer). I am confident I was not told it had to be activated or I would have required it to be activated. I will be taking the car back to have that done. For £30 (subject to negotiation) it is worth having.

I have just rang my main dealer and was told it cannot be activated if it didn't come with it from factory, mines an SE L and has the button that when pressed the message says ''Voice activation unavailable'' but i have a mike for the bluetooth and the button is obviously connected so is the dealer doing the usual and talking ****??

I am really fed up with Skoda dealers

Wouldn't surprise me if it was something that the dealers couldn't do on their systems, but is something that can be done with VCDS. I'm sure someone said that cornering lights are the same issue!

I thought that when you ordered your car from new if you select the option then I believed there was a lead that needed installing but I could be wrong.

I doubt this as holding the button brings up 'Voice Control Unavailable' on the display. I don't have voice control activated but when I use ApplePlay I can hold the button to activate Siri instead, which is a lot more useful to me anyway.

Hope this info helps. :)

Can you also just say "Hey Siri" if the phone is plugged in for Carplay?

Haha! No worries. My current car doesn't have CarPlay or voice control so I've been making use of this with the phone plugged in to the 12V.

Beware though that it sometimes won't work properly if you've got music on loud [emoji23]
