Well there's interesting.....

Featured Replies

I sent an email to DVSA about the fact that my auto brake fails to engage on a regular basis and the auto stop/start actually stops the engine whilst the car is in motion - albeit slowly. I used other cars I have driven with both systems and how their engine stop start and auto brakes engaged only when the vehicle was stationary and without fail.

Just had an official response requesting I complete a Vehicle Safety Report so that they can start looking into whether there is something that VAG/Skoda need to fix.

I was expecting a lack of interest if I'm honest, even having sent them a detailed mail with the conditions under which the fault occurs. It seems that actually they are interested and hence asking for a formal report to be completed.

We'll see what happens. For now I'll not let on to the Dealer as they have had enough time, as have Skoda UK to come up with an answer.

I can get my auto stop start to kick in at about 2mph when I'm slowing down if I stick it into natural and disengage the clutch.

However if I blip the gas or touch the clutch it will instantly restart as expected.

My auto brake works perfect I may add.

Can you share the link / post to your issues pls.

Thanks

I've recently had a new Volvo XC90 on hire and that also stopped the engine just before it came to a complete stop, as did a Volvo V60 I tried last year, both automatics. I didn't find it a problem, just seems to be how they work and not what I was used to.

My prevois loan Volvo S40 was the same... you dont even notice on cars with electric steering if you have the radio on!

My S3, my previous Mazda 6 and the Astra before it all behaved in exactly the same way (cutting out just before actually stopping).

I think its designed to work that way.

cutting out just before actually stopping

+1, this looks ok
but another problem is almost impossible find right(soft) break pedal pressure to avoid engine stoping.

dreaming about Start/Stop system marriage to TSR - to prevent S/S when {STOP} or {Give Way} sign detected

It's dangerous end of. It should only engage after being stopped full after about 2 seconds. I have had mine do it whilst coasting to a roundabout to set off I the. Has to restart as your trying to accelerate.

This issue of it cutting out then will only affect the DSG models as with the manual you have full control of it enabling etc..  (ie Neutral and lift the clutch)

I have a DSG Passat and I hate the stop-start. My start-up routine is to press the engine Start button and then the one to disable stop-start immediately afterwards. It's so intrusive, especially with a TDi engine.

To be fair, it's quite easy to get the knack of how much pressure is needed on the brake. I can choose between:

  • Just stopping momentarily with the engine running and no auto hold brakes applied.
  • Stopping with the engine running and the auto hold brakes applied.
  • Stopping with the engine off and the auto hold brakes applied.

It just takes a bit of practice, but it is a narrow range of movement for sure.

Yes exactly the same for me, got the hang of it after about one weeks ownership.
